Any suggestions? I don't want to go thru the process of removing and painting, too much work. I'm considering using a sharpie but not sure how it'll come out and longevity might be questionable. Ideally it'd be something quick and painless.

Maybe try plastidipping, like people do when blacking out badges. Just some taping, spray, peel.

I'd tape it off and spray it with whatever is used to tint tail lights.
Just to tone the chrome down a bit..

This would be the final option if none other exists

Plastidip is your only real option outside of taking the badge off, disassembling it, painting those pieces, reassembling and gluing it back together, then re taping the badge and re applying it.

Plastidip. Best thing is you can remove if you don’t like it. I’ve done my badges 8 months ago and they still look great. Even after a dozen or so Costco car washes. 108ECE45-B147-40D0-94D5-A1F4690561E2.jpg

Our Costco has car wash and gas. Some don't have either.

However, after thinking that my truck kept getting scraped in parking lots and after buffing the scrapes out, I went through the Costco car wash and later noticed some new scrapes. Thing that can be buffed out, but more than swirls that you might expect from a car wash. Looks like I'm back to manual car washes at home.

I thought so. molding came off easy. not so much the tape off the paintwork. 2 hours per side to get it cleaned off with an eraser wheel and adhesive cleaner.

Platidip is standard practice to dechrome badges without removal. And you can always peel the plastidip back off at a later date

Another plastidip project. “Chrome” delete 2015 platinum grill insert. It’s more like silver. Eight coats on grill and Toyota T. I think it looks great.

I tried to get the insert out but was afraid of busting those damn clips. So I had to tape and wrap the sections not wanting to paint.

I did break one of the large clips when removing the entire grill. I will post my solution in another thread.
