OK, I live in Arizona which is a constitutional carry state, open or concealed carry no permit needed. I am usually a 9mm guy but also have 45, 22, and 38 special for pistols. If I'm outdoors I will just carry my full size 9, but that doesn't always work. Also, being AZ and hot, most of the time I wear elastic shorts and a T-shirt.

So, I've been thinking of a smaller, pocket type of gun. In the past I have shot my buddy's 380 LCP. Loved how small and light it was, but it was a bit thin for my big hand and I am somewhat concerned about the 380 round effectiveness.

I recently saw the LCP Max. Same size, same weight, but slightly thicker in the hand and with either a 10 or 12 round mag. On paper, this seems like the perfect compromise. Yes, the 380 isn't a powerhouse of a round, but at only 10oz (unloaded) it weighs exactly as much as my cell phone and if I can't stop a bad situation with 10 shots, then I'm screwed anyways.

Most importantly, It's the old thing- the gun you're carrying is better than the one you left at home cause it was uncomfortable/too big/etc.

Anybody have any experience of thoughts on the LCP Max?

I carry the LCP in the summer when wearing shorts. I've had it about 10 years and love it.

I have the Crimson Trace laser, extended magazine and a clip to hold it on my pants (no need for a holster).

That is a nice set up. Hadn't thought to just put a clip on it.

I carry a M&P shield but would love to hear some feedback on the LCP Max.

I've got a LC9s but it just sits in the safe, not real happy with it.

Love the clip idea, are those universal or pistol specific?

Pistol specific and it wasn't expensive when I got it. Maybe $15.

Sig p365 SAS here. Fits nicely in pocket holster. No experience with the LCP but Ruger makes quality stuff.

I carry Kimber micro 380 in the summer. Didn't really try out LCP, but hey, it's Ruger. You already know it's gonna do the job.

I have a LCP Max and carry it more than anything else due to the convenience and like you said "any gun is better than no gun". I also have a 365 and a Shield, which are "small" but not even comparable to the LCP Max. I can't wear gym shorts without a belt with the 365, but the LCP Max I can clip it on gym shorts and the elastic band alone is enough to hold it up. 380 isn't a powerhouse, but I wouldn't want to get shot by it and for 10+ rounds and I don't have to wear specific clothes to carry it around, that makes it a win for me.

The gun itself though is absolute garbage. The trigger is the worst pistol trigger I've touched, it's tiny and I couldn't hit anything at 10 yards, and I hate to shoot it. But it's been reliable and trade offs are worth it to carry.

My summer carry is a Sig P938 Scorpion. Having handled several low-end Ruger pistols, my opinion is that they are not of a high quality and are therefore unreliable.

Colder weather/more clothes carry is a CZ P01.

Are you carrying it with that little clip attachment and no holster when you say you clip it onto gym shorts?? I would not advise having an uncovered trigger guard... The clip attachment thing for the LC9 might be less-disastrous because of that heavy trigger pull but on the newer LCPs with the redesigned trigger I worry it's a tragedy waiting to happen. If you're using a holster that covers the trigger guard then ignore this of course.

That being said, whatever you folks carry please cover the fucking trigger with a holster. "No need for a holster" is not true, you absolutely need a holster to cover that trigger... My advice is don't fuck around with little clip dongle things. Even a pocket holster will do, don't just take a gun and clip it arbitrarily to your person.

And with .380 you'll be fine caliber wise. Even a 22 mag will mess someone up!!

Leer 100XR truck cap, 5100's on the middle setting. Ikon Add A leaf, Cooper Discover ATX3 275/70/18, Genuine Cooling Systems transmission cooler, chrome delete.
They make kydex trigger guards with lanyards attached to them in case anyone wants to use the clip without having the trigger uncovered. I would personally never carry without the trigger covered. Another drawback to the clip is the gun rides very deep, the grip will be in your waist band leaving very little to grab when you draw, making it even easier to accidently grab the uncovered trigger while digging around in your waist band for the tiny gun.

I carry a Shield 45. Been thinking about the LCP Max as a backup, or pocket gun on those days when I'm thinly dressed. .380 is effective with the right ammo. I've had a Sig P238 that I eventually sold. I liked it, but like all micro pistols, I didn't feel confident with such a narrow grip. Going to look at the LCP Max just because of its wider grip with the double stack. It even has an extended 10 round for a possible full grip (also the 12 round mags).

You might appreciate this review. https://www.guns.com/news/reviews/ruger-lcp-max-review

Don't under estimate a 380 round. Not much size difference than a 9mm. The 380 does cost a little more though. Alot.of LE agencies use 380's as backups.

Not a Max but I've owned an LCP since they came out.
Sent it back for the recall and all that.
It is my most carried firearm.

Had the slide and some parts sent to CCR for their nickel boron plating, back then it was Cearplate, and now it is called CPII.
Polished the barrel, guide rod, and a mag one day when I was bored.

    C15AA038-1DEF-49C3-B734-E5C055383D49_zps_aae2026229c383b6995f2905feb4bdfa5a0fa26f.jpg 101_0603_d32c59399129c4fa2e7bb3ae98ff86d053c574b7.jpg

Usually carry it in a High Noon Pocket grabber, gym or cargo shorts pockets as well as a jeans back pocket.
I used to have a belly band holster I used when I used to run, that was years ago..
Sometimes with a custom OWB that literally disappears on the belt.
Carry a spare mag in my offside pocket.

Took a couple of hundred rounds to break in, but no issues since.
The Pachmyer glove helps a little with grip thickness.

With the improvements in .380 personal defense rounds, the .380 is almost up to par with the 9mm round. I carry the LCP in a Sneaky Pete holster. Very comfortable and close at hand.

I live in AZ too and it’s what I carry in the summer. Shorts, t-shirt, flip flops 90% of the time and it hides well. I personally don’t think it’s a gorgeous gun but gets the job done

Yep. I had one of those for my little Sig P238. I'm with you....wouldn't carry outside a holster without the trigger guard. Not a good idea at all. For women carrying in a purse, or anyone carrying in a pocket, a fanny pack, down in your boot, whatever. It needs that trigger covered.

If you need a good holster for when you’re wearing something without a belt check out the remora holsters. I use one with gym shorts and it kind of sticks to your skin and doesn’t move around just with the pressure from the gym shorts. I wouldn’t go running with it in there but walking etc is fine.

J frame in a belly band, I can comfortably do sprints and calisthenics. If I am in elastic shorts or sweats something’s
Gotta give. Firearm and wallet/keys can’t go on the waist/pocket area at the same Time. Too much weighing the pants down. I’ve done it and can make it work but don’t like it. 2 out of the 3 things in athletic pants is generally my limit.
