Just wanted some opinions. I found a 2007 4.7L Tundra with only 53k for 17,000. Does that seem like a good deal, and is it even a good idea to go with an older truck like that?

That sounds like a steal at first glance. Can you get more of a history? Accidents? Maintenance records?

BTW, Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)!

No accidents, and no issues besides general oil changes is what I have been told. I got pictures of the undercarriage and engine and it’s got no rust to it

You think the timing belt would be an issue with the low miles?

Unless you're dead set on the 4.7 for some reason, I would pass. The only redeeming quality is the low miles, and at some point old age is just as bad as mileage in regards to seals and stuff. You could get a higher mileage 5.7 with way more power for less, and that'd be my vote.

Just as a point of comparison I picked up my '07 December 2021. 4x4 5.7 Crewmax with 185k on it for 12.5k (need $800 fuel pump repair immediately to fix dash lights). I agree with someone above. I would look for a 5.7. The 2007s at this point are going to be more about everything except the engine. Look at paint, dents, rust. These are things that are hard/expensive to fix.

It’s pretty clean, body looks fantastic and the frame has no rust going on. That’s what has me interested in it. Just don’t want to shell it out and get screwed over with the engine

Make sure the 4.7 has enough power for your needs. If condition is nice, it sounds like a decent deal with such low mileage. The 4.7 was a really good engine, just not as powerful as the 5.7.

They do need timing belts every 7 years or 90,000 miles. This was the interval for my 2004 4.7. It may have been revised by Toyota for newer models, but rubber does degrade with time.

It really depends on how you plan to use the truck. If you're satisfied with the condition and price, the 4.7 will do fine for commuting, and "light" hauling and towing. As referenced earlier, the 5.7 is a tow beast, so if you need a truck for "heavy" work, pass.

I had the 4.7 in my '06 Tundra before deciding to buy my 2010 with the 5.7. Mileage difference between the two was the 4.7 got 2-3 mpg more . I'd guess the larger/heavier '07 would work the 4.7 a little harder than my '06 did. No complaints about the 4.7 though, it was really a smooth running engine and served me well for 4 years.

I bought a 2007 5.7 dbl cab with 180k on it and it was a great truck!!!!! :) I couldn’t see a tundra with that low miles being any different as long as it hasn’t been “abused”.

i say buy it. with such low miles there's no way that the interior & exterior are not practically perfect. everything else can be replaced with routine maintenance and that truck will last you forever. unless you plan on towing a big trailer a ton, the 4.7 is fucking bulletproof. two '07 4.7s have made it to 1M miles. is it 4x4? i bought my '07 4.7 with 243K miles in april '21 and i fecken lev it. 267K now. it looked real nice and had lots of maintenance records with the carfax but it really started showing its age quickly and i ended up doing a lot of the other obviously deferred maintenance after i got it... spark plugs, rear main seal, water pump failed after about 70K so i did that whole thing, the replacement suspension the PO (1-owner) had put on was KYB garbage, my radiator went out, tires were KO2 trash, my driver's side catalytic converters decided to implode... i've put a lot of money into this heap but i knew it was going to need work and i love it. still needs work. ... LCAs are trashed, AC is busted, parking brake is shit, airbag light is on, CC don't work; it goes on. it's not my daily anymore (company got me a 2022 corolla cross XLE, it's nice!), just the camp mobile now.

Owning a Tundra is about the only way to afford an iKamper RTT! :fistbump: Get to spend the money on nice stuff like that instead of repairing the truck.

So the reason you buy a Toyota is that you don't have to worry about anything until 150k miles other than the routine maintenance.

When I see a Toyota with that low of miles and higher price on it. I just see waste of money. I say get a higher mileage one, save some money and get you some upgrades that you may like with that money you saved imho.

lol. Did you read what I said? I put close to $10K in to this thing in about a year and not even on cool mods. All just deferred maintenance.

@Hib5710 Shoot me the VIN on it and I can run it through my dealer site and reply back with JD Power (NADA), Black Book, and even auction value on it. I can run an Auto Check history report too if you want. Just wanted to offer if you would like to see all that.

I paid $14k for my 07 Crewmax Limited 4x4 with a little over 120k on it. One owner, interior is basically immaculate, dealer serviced from new, garaged most of its life. Coilovers, 35s, almost new Alpine head unit and speakers, Clear is shot on the roof, needed a new grille, headlight restoration and some random bits (belt moldings, new 3rd brake light lens, antenna bushing and a tailgate strut.
One accident on Carfax (parking lot thing). It felt like too good of a deal to pass up.

    I have a 2007 4.7.
I bought it in December of 2017 with 150K miles for $12,500.
Now just a little shy of 200K.

I love it and it’s an amazing truck, but I wish I had the 5.7L.

the 2UZFE is bullet proof though as long as you keep up with the maintenance.

It's been 10 days now, I wonder what the OP decided. My '07 has the 5.7 but my '00 had the 4.7. While the 5.7 has more power the 4.7 had no problems pulling a 10k 26' enclosed race car trailer with about 5000lbs inside. I would guess I was pulling 7500lbs easily and the flat front of the enclosed trailer clearly didn't help matters. There's one steep hill near me on the interstate that it would slow sown on unless I really mashed the pedal to the floor.

I've got a 2007 4.7, lemme drop you some of the info I know

These are timing belt motors- and they are also interference motors meaning if that belt snaps, you're gonna bend a valve and have a very costly repair, that service needs to be done at 80K intervals

Has the torque converter been changed? The 07 4.7 has torque converter issues (premature failing- mine failed at 230k, I pulled my trans and replaced, good as new)

What about air injection pump/valve issues, if they have maintenance records have they already had the issues warrantied?

Diffs, Transfer case service- have those been serviced? The interval for each is 60k (so not quite time, but something to think about)

The 4.7L 07 tundra are the only two tundras (on record (that I know of)) to hit 1 million miles ;)

Lastly, like stated above- its a smaller V8, with the tow package your towing capacity is only like 8,000 lbs, still better than a V6 but not all that great

thats another thing, granted its under the intake, which makes it way more complicated, but its not the end of the world

My Rig is a 2007 with pretty low miles (not 10k) but 52K miles. I haven't dropped any money on it other than the Mods I wanted to add to it.

Drives, handles unreal and looks pretty great for an old 15 soon to be 16-year-old truck.

Will probably keep this old truck forever.

Not trying to be a dick, but where are these few million miles 5.7’s? Definitely a cooler platform but I don’t think any exist yet.

What is the badge on the fender? I never realized that the 4.7 had engine badges also.
