ICE F150 needs to move to full coil like the Lightning and Raptor. At least on the higher trims. I know they don't want to lost the high towing capacity, but if the F150 ICE could match the Ram ride quality, it would be the best all around truck.

I just wonder how you can trust something like this from Ford with all the crap in it, so much to go wrong.

I still have a bad taste in my mouth with their entire truck going haywire on me on that test run.

If you are looking for a new vehicle everything is going this way.

I would feel better with an electric motor over a new auto stop start combustion motor with twin turbos and massive cooling to protect it all.

Electronic circuits are part of a "chain" that works or they don't. My concern with the Lightning is how many of the soldered circuits and chips used, were made (sourced) in China during a Pandemic. My 10? year old Windows 7 (yeah) Lenovo laptop is still going. No way the new Lenovo's last that long.

Its obvious to me and was since I was considering a new Tundra or F150 last winter that most everyone here on this forum buying a truck is not planning to keep them past warranty anyway. They will sell with some time left to make sure the new owner has some warranty. So customer service to deal with problems becomes the No. 1 Priority.

The days of "I just bought my last truck" or "this thing will outlast me" or "I plan on keeping this at least 10 years" (this was me) ......are over with these new trucks.

But it's AHHHmazing! It has all the features! Acceleration! Generator! Such wow!

Between the two '22s, I can't imagine not picking the Tundra every single time. But I'm not sure I won't just go to a simple HD gasser next. My truck meets all my needs right now (extremely dependable daily driver, highly maneuverable for its size adventuremobile, project hauler, work gear hauler, tow pig), but I'm running out of payload as my kids grow.
Lots of good points here. I still think Toyota will still be ahead of the pack in terms of dependability. Their adherence to kaizen through their manufacturing process hasn't changed. They just built a wildly more complicated truck. It does seem that the '22's problems are fewer and further between as time goes on and they fine-tune their process and chase down issues.

I think your right, I was just thinking about that this morning, like shit, no matter what I do or when I do it, Im subject to this new environment of overly complicated electronic software style truck now, there is just no way around it if you want a new truck.

I enjoy new trucks and would like to get a new one and Im fortunate enough (through hard work) to be able to afford one.

So I may just say hell with it and get a 2023 tundra or sequoia and see what happens.

I do agree that the problems seem to be simmering down as they go through a full year of production and should be even better on the second run. the sequoia will have a head start as its super similar to the tundra.

I think Im going to close the book on Ford though, Im sitting here thinking about that and that awful feeling of that test drive keeps popping back in my head.

Based on the info you provided - that was a Sales Dept (Customer Service) fail for not providing you with a properly prepped truck.
Something happened to that truck or someone did something to it before you got in to drive it.
They should have confirmed everything before throwing you the keys..sorry my bad!! no more keys...the Fob
I would not base my decision on this unless you feel their Service Dept (Customer Service) will be the same.

it happened after I left the dealer though, the truck was ready and had been driven before. Upon first start and for a few miles, it was fine so they wouldn't have known

An electronic thing like that I would test drive another one if the dealer is close.
I have test drove the Tundra but not the F150. If I am serious I will go test drive one but I am not wasting my and their time.
What I can't understand is how so many F150's are sold yet you and Dr. Z find the transmission clunky. Not doubting it.
    Need to test drive one.
Think of all the people test driving these - the truck hasn't learned their driving style during the drive and they sign on the the dotted line.
Son in Law says his transmission is fine.
Since its electronic and a "file" that they reflash or reprogram - I am wondering if a small percentage of trucks out there got hit with a bad batch of chips or circuits that control the transmission.

and then you read something like this.

it wasnt so much the trans only, its just the entire powerboost drive train, I tested two of them, the second I think there was a problem with it, not only the electric stuff going haywire, but it seemed messed up, and it was clunky going between hybrid and non hybrid and shifting wasnt smooth.

so not sure what to make of all that, I guess Im used to Aisin trans in Toyotas that are smooth and also that ZF8 I had in my Ram was butter!!

so maybe its just I have higher expectations or I just got a shitty test truck, but Ill I can go on is what I drove and how it felt. The tundra platinum test truck was smooth

All but one scratch came off and I fixed the plastics. Just lazy assembly.

But holy shit this things a rocket . The ride is quiet without the engine but good amount of wind noise. Ride is pretty bouncy too. Large ass screen takes a while to get used to

I guess I defend them because they travel where I travel, they tow test where I tow. They're over 5k ft altitude all the time same as me, do multiple 10k+ ft passes so it resonates with me. They go through deep snow, same as me. What they do provides me a baseline to determine if I can get a better all-around vehicle than the V8 4Runners and the Sequoia.

Same here. People think if their truck can pull boat over a bridge somewhere on the Gulf Coast where there isnt a hill in 100 miles that it must be good to go everywhere.

I came to the harsh realization that this isnt always true. My F150 rated to tow 11,100 lbs would really be struggling if I put that much weight behind it on a hot day here in Utah. Seeing their videos helps separate the boys from the men, I just wish they had more videos like the one where Andre's Powerboost "overheated". You know, ones where they pull near max weight up a massive grade on a hot day. Not in the middle of the winter. But that's not really up to them since they are at the mercy of the manufactures sending them trucks most of the time.

I do wish they had kept their Tundra Limited a bit longer and did some hot weather testing. I think the Tundra(both the 2G and 3G) stand out in the 1/2 ton crowd in terms of their true capability in harsh real world conditions. The Tundra's cooling system almost looks like it came out of an HD diesel and dwarfs most of the other half tons.

Congrats, if you decide to keep it or I guess make money on it. *^0
Interested to know about real world charging convenience, and how long charges last day to day different conditions.
Sounds like you fixed up the quality control issues - dealer prep?

I skipped dealer prep. I always do so I’m sure some of the plastics would have been corrected but it was mostly the frunk panels and just lazy factory assembly.

    Longer ownership view points

    1. the instant speed is disgusting. I know that’s how most EV’s are but to get it in a truck is awesome.

    2. looking forward to the more button less touch infotainment in the tundra . Using the hvac on screen is trash.

    3. must have been windy or something but 2nd highway ride was quieter. Still a little bouncy for my taste.

    4. the exterior build quality is actually really good. No dimpled sheet metal like my previous ICE. No drips, runs, or contaminants that I’ve found.

    5. Included running boards have lights at the end to enhance the zone lighting.

    6. Interior build quality is better than what I tested. Still some cheap feeling plastics in the console but the door panels, bezels, etc are solid.

    7. Seat build quality better than my 21 ICE. Doesn’t wiggle or creak, it’s tight and nicely done. Two tone doesn’t look as bad as I thought.

    8. light bar looks cheap as fuck. Some guys on the forums have tinted them so it looks a little better.

    9. Frunk is pretty awesome. Spacious, nice cargo mat and great lights inside. Not quick to open. It pops then sits there for a few seconds.

    10. getting like 1.8 kWH for “mileage” I’m going to recharge tomorrow, reset the clock and see what I can get on my day to day driving.

    11. Charging port door is a flimsy pop door. Works like 70% of the time. Not a cool motorized motion. just meh

Autospring 2.0. It was just temporary, I was impatient to get the 35's on but wanted to wait for a Tremor specific kit/coilovers, arrived monday and hopefully I have time to install this weekend.

It come's an inch higher in the front due to some unique front components, just a little different than the other F-150s. And I think the UCAs are slightly longer for more range of motion, though I also ordered new SPC UCAs with this new kit. Many of the guys on the Tremor forum suspect the standard F-150 kits would work fine on the tremor but nobody wants to drop $2000+ on a "maybe" so I waited until I found a kit that was proven to work without any interference.

The website does say unique control arms(doesn't specify one or both) and unique knuckle. So maybe there is some kind of difference in how long the shock should be.
