07 5.7 transmission confused

ok i got a 07 5.7 that the tranny started slipping in all forward gears but reverse was fine. on the day i was taking it to the shop the truck cut off like it was out of gas. when i got the truck started then i had no park or neutral or reverse but all forward gears where fine. the shop says total rebuild. could this be something small like electrical? 3800 is what the shop wants

We have electrical specific shops that diagnose things like that where I live. That would be my first stop.

also, the secondary market for junk yard parts is pretty good for us Toyota owners. I might consider going that route If the problem is mechanical

 

well its at the shop now but they havent done anything to it yet. they say 4 weeks. i dont mind paying for a full rebuild if thats what i need. just dont sound right with no slip then slip then no park neutral etc.

 

and im in sc and any tundra used parts are scarce.
