Looking for advice on a simple/inexpensive upgrade to 2021 SR5 factory suspension. I know zero about this stuff. I’ve read through past posts and am overwhelmed.

I run 10 ply tires (45 psi) factory size and an ARE canopy. Ride was ok before the canopy, but with it now has a bit of mush. I want to fix the mush without making it rock hard. No oversized tires, no lift, no leveling wanted. I like the basic factory look, including some rake.

The canopy is there full time. My main use of the truck is towing 3500 lbs (or unloaded) on curvy country roads, 40-55 mph. Also some gravel roads / washboard. No rock crawling, minimal highway time.

Can I get by with just new shocks or something cheap and simple? thx

In your situation, I would add Firestone Riderite airbags inflated to ~35 psi. Fairly inexpensive but effective solution and easy install. If it doesn't get you the results you want, you can move on to more expensive suspension options.

Other than airbags, look at RAS, HD version. activesuspension.com helps support the weak factory springs, stop/reduce sag from hauling and towing and no impact to ride like airbags or add a leaf. Super easy install and about $500

I installed Sumo Springs, very happy with them.

    Just another option to consider.

You have the stock black shocks? Simply replacing those with a shock with more compression and rebound control may help. 4600 Bilsteins would be a mild step up. 5100s slightly stiffer.

I’d check out the RAS for what you’re describing.
