Door/window trim chrome delete

With both hands you need to push down with fingers while trying to roll up you’re knuckles toward you and palms toward the truck while pulling up like you’re trying to unhook it from the door. Reverse this motion to put it back on, the front doors you’ll need you pull it out from behind the side mirrors. If you look on the first page of this thread you will see pictures posted of the instructions and it’s exactly that way.

Appreciate it! For some reason the instructions were confusing me.

 

For the window trims, which ones did you guys go with? Matte black or the gloss black and why? The gloss black is way more expensive than the matte black. Thoughts?

 

Have any of you guys replaces the chrome door handles? It looks like the chrome piece is a separate piece from the rest of the handle part. Has anyone tried to remove it to replace with a black one or a body color one?

 

I've done it. There are 2 locator tabs on both front/back of the handle cap. Using a pry tool, you can pry it up slowly as you move down the middle of the handle cap (as it's held on by double sided tape.

Then, what I did at least was to using self-etching primer after scuffing the chrome:


Then color match paint/2K spray max clear coat:


I used 3M VHB double sided tape to re-adhere:


And finished up after re-install:

 

Gloss black for me- matches the windows and trim better and also matches all the gloss black accents on the truck

Did you happen to see if there was a part number on the back of those handle covers?

 

I've got a spare set. I'll check for a part number tomorrow.

@Robbsolid Do these replace the chrome inserts or are they covers? I'm also curious if the door handle touch lock feature still works after installation.

 

Just a cover. Went over the chrome. Touch lock feature still works, as these don't cover them.

 

the eBay link you posted shows a different product picture that what you posted. It looks like the covers that seller is selling goes completely over the door handle and not just over the chrome trim. Are these the ones you ordered and you received pieces that only cover the chrome?

Sorry foe the delay. Yes, the product picture looks different. There are some on ebay that show the correct product. I ordered these not thinking about it, and wondered the whole time what exactly I'd get. Happily, it was just a cover for the chrome

 

would you mind sharing another pic but of the front door handle? i want to see how much chrome you can still see through the keyhole.

 

Looking to buy somones take off chrome window moulding. I know the vertical pieces are not reusable. I am willing to ship back my factory black mouldings to anyone interested.

 

i just had my factory chrome vertical pieces painted gloss black, was there an issue with breaking them on install?

 

The vertical pieces are held on with 3 double sided tape, you could just get new tape.

Thanks! Those covers look nice. I'm thinking of ordering to try and spray paint them & 2k clear to see how they would turn out. Either try those covers first or then take off the existing chrome part like @roboots21 did. I'm tempted to pry the chrome piece off to see if there's a part number on them. That way if I mess them up, I can just order another piece.

Do you know if it’s 3m tape or knock off. I ordered these, but am wondering if I should replace the tape with my own 3m
