Rode Thunder Mountain trail out by Kirkwood yesterday. Man that climb was a bitch. Gorgeous views though. The trail in the background goes up over the ride between those rock outcroppings.

Speaking of disc brakes... My Formulas are aging. They can't tolerate the bike being vertical. Even a few minute ride in a gondola will allow the lever to bottom. I've bled them to all hell and back, even had my LBS do a full flush. Still no dice. They feel like Formulas should otherwise, but I'm not sure I should replace them or just be ok with this. The brakes return to normal after some pumping. I bled them with the bike vertical once, just to see, but all that did was lock up the calipers when the bike was horizontal again.

There's gotta be some air introduction somewhere. Hope you get it sorted.

When I didn't have a top I just used an Army surplus wool blanket and bungy cords for a tailgate "pad". Way cheaper than those fancy pads and always in stock. :D

This is what I use since I’m only carrying my bike 99% of the time. Like that it doesn’t take up the whole tailgate, and can take it off quickly and stash it in the truck if I am somewhere I am worried about it getting stolen.

I’ve been considering picking one of those up over a tailgate pad myself, but the price difference makes it hard for me. Also considering the half pads I’m starting to see my companies put out. Generally I’m only hauling my bike and occasionally the GF’s

I considered a couple of bomber straps, but I just bought a kayak and the full pads are supposed to be good for those too. Ideally, I'd like to do a retrax cover with bed rack with the option to carry both.

Nice. I had an OM Flyer back in the day. And A'ME grips, too. I still have those on my GT Pro Freestyle Tour Team.

I was always an off brand guy, my favorite BMX bike I ever had was a Hank & Frank Force 1, my GJS was a close second. I had a Torker that was a blast to jump, not a great race bike. I only have one MTB, once again a little off brand, Transition Triple which is a dirt jumper that I put a dh group set on and ride it as a trail bike. I know it's WEIRD . . .

Yeah it's been an awesome bike, just crossed 10,000 miles this year so I'm creeping in on that $1/mile cost

Walked into my local bike shop and got a matching mountain bike. I enjoy biking more than I ever thought I would. Lots of great trails in the Durham/Chapel Hill area of NC.

Sooooo... My old ass went down yesterday. I was on a warmup lap at Trestle. Heading down Shy Ann for the very first time ever. Tore around a berm, and was instantly greeted by very decent size whoops. I was still in berm stick/rail mode, so needless to say, my front tire washed out. Nothing major, bruised hip, knee, rib (probably) and surface rash on my right arm. Now shopping for chest protector. Suggestions? Not going to be a full time thing, just when I'm at lift service spots. FIRST CRASH IN LIKE 9 YEARS!!!

I broke the rule of scoping out the trail first.

Oh also, we had 2 flats yesterday. Was thinking of getting one of these.

How’s the 1up super duty or heavy duty hitch mounted racks work with tundra? Can you get the tailgate down with the rack retracted? Better combo out there? I’d rather a roof rack but not easy to get the bike up there and if it’s isn’t easy I’m not as likely to do it.

    Glad it wasn't major.

I carry one of these but have yet to test it for patching a tubeless flat.
