Lowering the Tundra

First off Ive had this truck since new in 2000, put a Aggressive Suspension coil over setuo on it to raise the front 2.5 ", been like that since new, had the coil over rebuilt 1 time. As I am now older (much) Im wanting to lower the truck for ease of entry. Any suggestions guys??

Curious, which coilover package did you go with to lift/level? Truck looks great.

As far as lowering goes, there's not a lot of out-of-the box kits. DJM has stuff, of course, but I'd probably go with the SOS kit. SOS is a solid vendor with a good rep, and that should have everything you need in one shot for a static drop with no bags.

Not aware of any coilover kits readily available for a variable non-bag drop.

*EDIT: Actually I just looked back over the kit. Looks like it doesn't include front/rear shocks until you get to the drop boxes. If you have questions, reach out to Tom @ SOS and see what advice he gives you. They have a presence on FaceBook, but you could probably call also.

 

There's a few options if your truck is 2WD. A good option for a levelled stockish height would be stock front springs and 2" rear lowering shackles.

If you want to go further than that there is a company that makes a 3.5" front/rear drop, granted that's 3.5" lower than stock. Too low for a pickup truck in my opinion.

Yeah, that's a good point. If 4WD, it's pretty problematic to lower much more than an inch or two below stock.

 

Sos performance is your best bet for lowering

LOL, I join forums like this for info, some good some bad but mostly good.
To others I just like lowered trucks and thought since Ive gotten older and my tundra doesnt see off road that I could enter/exit easier if it was lowered, still up in the air about doing it though so I thought I'd get info from these forums. Not as low as my other truck thou lol

You could go back to stock springs and Bilstein 4600's on the front and add the lowering shackles for the rear (usually only 3/4" or 1" of lowering) to level it out.

If you only need to go down from the current coilover height.


The SOS 2" front / 3.5" rear would be the next step for bolt on solutions.

After that you may be looking at c-notching the rear frame.

 

My coil overs I assume were made by Aggressive Suspension in Anaheim Ca or at least that's where I bought them, might be out of biz now ?? they used Fox Shocks is about all I know of them. They've worked well for 22 years, remember that back then there wasn't much available for the Tundra.
I think I will give SOS a call for what they would recommend.
I was going to change out my truck but after seeing what they go for in todays market I decided to keep mine, only has 115,000 mi. on it and runs perfectly, got a few bumps and bruises but in very good shape!!

Me coming from the GM world, and a hardcore GM family, having had my fair share of GMT400 and GMT800 and prior, and coming into my Tundra after getting rid of my '98 C1500, I just gotta say - your red truck is exactly the stance for street I'd typically aim for. I've never been a fan of cowl hoods unless they're 100% functional, but everything else is awesome.

 

The hood is a little different than others as it comes to a point in the front but I understand your feelings about them.
My stance was not without effort believe me, front was pretty easy as I went with QA1 coil overs adjustable,and A arms, the back was a lot more work as I had to do under bed/over frame C notch and it still bottoms on big dips , but I drive with looking ahead if you know what I mean. It rides decently for as low as it is and also being a static job.
Its a true SS454 but I didnt go for stock look as you can see, it also has a 502HO so it motors pretty good.
Was thinking of selling it because of my age but, then what I ask, too old to go thru this again LOL

Looks like the rear is already low enough.

If you’ve had the truck since new, I’d spend the money and get a good old set of factory front coilovers and some running boards and call it a day.

But first I’d start with an OEM grille
