As the title states, I'm looking to buy my 1st Tundra a would like some feedback from the collective. I currently have a 2008 DCLB 4x4 Tacoma. Other than the interior space, the truck meets my needs and I do love the aesthetics of the taco. To say the least, I'm still somewhat on the fence about upgrading.

Those of you with double cabs and kids. Do you have enough leg room with rear facing child seat in the back? I'm not giant at only 5'7", but it's still a bit tight for longer drives. I'm wondering if the double cab is an option or if crew max is where I need to be.

I've contacted the dealer about this truck. I threw out $38k OTD. Anything I should look out for? Good deal, bad deal?
    https://www.bentonnissan.com/vehicle-details/used-2016-toyota-tundra-sr5-5TFDW5F19GX501497

For poops and giggles I contacted my local dealer about a cement pro just to see if they'd move on price. So far they seem to be willing to move a little.

That's a nice truck- that's a Crewmax, not a double cab. You can pretty much live in a CM:D

Looks like the previous owner added the following to the truck-
    Wheels
Lift (can't see if it's spacer or suspension)
    TRDPro grill (color matched)
Color matched front bumper (not sure if paint or vinyl)
    Drop in center console safe
    Red interior leds
    Skull shift knob
    Tonneau cover

I think they are nuts asking $38k for that truck. While it is nice, it has 25k on the odometer.
In CO you can one brand new (5.7, 4wd like that) for around the same price. With that being said there may be around $4-5k worth of add ons on that truck, but dealers will never pay you for add ons.

I believe that one has the 38g tank as well. I wonder if those 25k miles were all towing miles.

I agree, $38,000 is way way way to much. You could probably get it down to $35,000 and be about right. Hell, I just bought a new 1794 for $45,000.

At that price, I would look at a new one. You asking owners with 'kids'. I assume that you have more than one kid. Go with a CM. You won't regret it.

I have teenagers and they can stretch their legs out plenty in the crewmax.

I went all out for the CM Platinum, but then I spend a lot of time on the road so I wanted the extra comfort. All I can say is that I love mine and I am a first time Tundra owner. That said, I agree with the others. That is way too much for a used Tundra. I also have the position of when you buy used, you are buying someone else's problem. Buy a new one, get your 7/8 year 125k warranty. Peace of mind is a great thing. As to road trips, I have already done a 1700 mile or so trip and it was great. About to do a 3000 mile trip and have no concerns about it. There is so much room in the back seat of the CM, I am 6'5" and I can sit back there comfortably.

I was aware this was a crew max and my original question was regarding double cabs. My mistake for adding confusion.

The dealer installed the tires/wheels, lift(I suspect spacer as well), and the steps. All are worthless to me. I'd swap for SCS wheels and Coopers. Spacer would be trashed and eventually replaced with a proper lift.

TacomaWorld has been robbing my bank account for some time now. I like to mod mine my way....unless it's a Pro:drool:

Good point on the possible towing miles. The truck is now off my list after seeing the interior pics...and that hideous shift...too telling that the previous owners taste and my own don't line up.

Wow! Was that OTD or pre tax, title, etc? Did you sell your Pro?

My preference is for new, unless a good deal presents itself. As for now we have one kid, which is why I am curious if a DC works for those toting little ones. We may eventually have more though so a CM isn't off the table either.

I appreciate everyone's feedback. If I decide to convert I'm sure tundras.com will be the same great resource and community TacomaWorld has been.

This is how my taco sits today, with the Softopper down.IMG_3726.jpg

I just went from a dbl cab Tacoma to a Tundra crew Monday and took the family (wife, 13yo, 10yo and 3yo who is in a forward facing car seat and myself) on a 4 hr trip and we were very comfortable. My wife has a Volvo XC 90 with 3 rows. My kids had more room in the back seat of the Tundra than they do in the rear of the XC. Although the XC has 3 rows they want to ride in the 2nd row. They were much more comfortable in my Tundra. The ride compared to the Tacoma is night and day better. Much easier to drive and the convenience of the Tundra is great. I put a Bakflip G2 on and we put our bags in the bed and were gone. I don't regret the purchase at all.

Go with the crew max, extra space is never a bad thing. Also NEVER EVER buy a truck with dealer added upgrades. They inflate the prices in such a insane manner. All I can suggest is don't do it.

I've got a DC. If you have kids go with the CM. My gkids fit just fine in my DC but I'm not hauling them everyday all over the place. (That would drive me nuts at my age whether a DC or CM). "Extra space" is nice. For me the best extra space is the 6.5 ft bed....

Honestly the bedlength and vents for the rear seat are the only reservations I have from full on drinking the CM juice. I bought the LB Taco because I use my bed.

I'm with the OP on the TacomaWorld stealing my money. 20170703_114411.jpgThis was my Tacoma when I traded her. AAL and bilsteins all around set on .75 with OME coils. It was fun moding it myself but now I have a new project.

I still think Toyota could sell every CM with a 6.5" bed if they built them.

Ah, I see. I had a DC and went to the CM two years later. I too, like you, am short (5'7" on a good day) but with two kids it was becoming a PITA to squeeze them back there for me.

I am also on TW, but I assure you this environment is much friendlier and we've maintained it as such over the last 3.5 years.

Many of us came from a Tacoma (myself included) and for the extra room, and power I've yet to regret trading up. Best of luck with whatever you decide!

I got my 1794 from Nalley of Stonecrest in Lithonia. They gave me a pretty good deal. Of course I was trading in a 2 week old TRD Pro and they already had a buyer sitting in the parking lot. They tried to charge for floor mats, nitrogen in tires, front tint and stuff like that and I told them to take it all off and sell it to me for $45,000 plus tax. He came back 10 seconds later and said you got a deal. When I picked it up, all that stuff was still on the truck so I think I did well. They gave me $45,000 for my Pro and swapped the tonneau cover over to the new truck for $150.

Ask for Jamel if you go. He was straight and to the point. I was in and out within two hours.

Also don't pay dealer doc fees and crap. They took that off too

You should be able to get a hell of a deal the end of July. 18's come out in September. They need to make room.

Yea I've been lurking here for a while now and have noticed tundras.com seems to be a more friendly environment. As much as I love my taco and even the aesthetics of the new 3rd gen taco, the new engine and drivetrain have left me disappointed. That coupled with the smaller cabin space, I feel a Tundra is the next best thing.

And whatever that other issue is where it's been leaving people stranded. I'm a big Toyota fan, but not a fan of the issues some 3rd gens seem to be having on a continuous basis.

Thanks for the tip. I'll give them a look. I've always negotiated based on OTD pricing in the past. We'll see how it plays out this go around.

All of the above. And an underwhelming engine and transmission that shifts like a mad man. Supposedly the manuals make it better but they don't offer a manual in the LB.
