So we had a full Sequoia heading down about 4 hours for a funeral and my 75 lb pup came along so that greatly diminished interior cargo space.

We thought about a hitch carrier basket as well as a hard rooftop carrier but in the end opted for a soft carrier that advertised it was waterproof and rugged workmanship.

This thing claims to hold up to 19 cf of gear and has an innovative way of anchoring down to your vehicle. It comes with 6 anchors that fit onto the pinch weld that holds the weatherstripping. If you have no luggage rack system in place this thing says no problem.

We have no complaints! Got rained on and dry as a bone inside. The straps have Velcro on the ends so that you can run them through the ample loops and cinch the ends up to avoid the flapping.

Had one similar. Could never quite get all of the straps to behave at highway speed. At least one would always "buzz" when at speed like there was a swarm of bees nesting on the roof.

If you're able to twist the straps that should help, just 1/2-1 turn is all you need
