I just moved to Canada and I need to remove the ability to turn off the DRL’s on my Tundra. I’m thinking about replacing the switch with the Canadian one but that’s expensive… anyone got a better idea on how to make sure the DRL’s are always on?

When are they off? Do you have the halogens or the LED headlights?

I have the LEDs and there is an “off” position on the stalk.

There is some hijackery needed to turn off the DRL as they are a law in Canada to have them.

Does the off position need to be eliminated for legal purposes? Or you want to eliminate it to prevent from accidentally turning them off and getting a citation? I run mine in Auto all the time. DRL all day, headlights all night. I never switch the stalk to anything but.

Yeah that’s my problem. My truck is from the USA and has an off position. Canadian tire says it won’t pass inspection with that “off” position.

They won’t allow it on their roads with the ability to turn them off.

Do they test it? Or just won’t pass it if they see the off position available? I’m sure with a rubber eraser and some elbow grease you could rub that printing off….

You might have to change the stalk?

Find a better place to do an out of country inspection. Small mechanics will usually overlook that.

That’s what I’m guessing but they decided to charge me 7% tax on 50k USD for a truck I bought new for 47k 4 years ago and paid 4.712% tax on when I bought it. I’m really trying to avoid spending any more money on it

They told me ONLY Canadian Tire is authorized to do the out of country RIV inspection.

    Some.
Q tip and acetone to remove the switch markings, and either a bottle of expert super glue or a micro tip glue bottle tip to glue the switch in the on position.
    Total cost: less than $20.

Now that’s a cheap creative solution. If I can’t figure out how to keep the rest of switch operational I’ll do that.

I haven't seen what the stalk looks like, but if it is on the same switch as the other exterior lights, you can do it cheaper.
Using a DMM, find the circuit for the DRL Off position.
If it closes a circuit when in the off position, either remove the pin or the plug from the harness side (use marine/glue lined heat shrink to cap it to prevent unintentional activation but keep intact).
If it opens the circuit, use a jump wire from the power side to the load side in the wiring harness.
Total cost: <$5, time and research to get done.

You can still remove the markings for the DRL Off, and then it will switch to that position but be non-functional. Or just leave it and they will find that it is non-functional.

Edit: I shouldn't have to say this, but I will. BEFORE working on any electrical systems, disconnect the vehicle battery. Use these suggestions at your own risk. This forum member will not be held liable if you work on your own vehicle and burn it to the ground, or for any damage/injury/death resulting from any modifications you make to your vehicle.

Dang, you're right. Canadian tire has that sweetheart deal.
