Hey Folks, I just wanted to get your thoughts about a common subject that’s talked about on the forum regarding transmission fluid temps on 2019-2021 Tundras. I have a 2020 Pro with about 8K miles and while doing some easy off-road trails on the Lost Coast of CA, the Warning light popped up. I was traveling on 4-Hi, wasn’t towing anything and the bed was only loaded with regular camping equipment, nothing big or heavy. Scared the crap out of me since it was just me and my sons in the middle of nowhere. I turned off the truck about a mile after seeing the warning light, waited like 5 minutes and turned it back on to then see the warning light was now gone. Luckily finish the remaining 8 miles with no issues. My question is, should I schedule an appointment with the dealership to have it looked at or could the warning light maybe just been some weird fluke? Thanks! Here’s some pics from our adventure!

Use 4 low if you are in 4wd for a long slow sustained climb. 4 low more than doubles your gearing making it much easier on your engine and trans. What you experienced isn’t uncommon on 2019+ trucks in the use described. The trans also hates reverse in 4 high.

If the fluid smells burnt I would get it changed. That light doesn’t come on until it’s at or close to 300 degrees F.

thanks for the input! I should probably just take it in since I got until February until the 3 year new vehicle warranty expires.
