Analog lock box for emergency key?

Hey all,
I had a close call with the kiddos yesterday after hiking in the national forest. I used my remote start to start the truck, loaded the kids and the dog up, then closed the tailgate and the topper with my keys in the bed of the truck!

Thankfully, I was parked at such a high articulation angle one side of my Snugtop didn’t lock, so I was able to wedge my hand in and unlock the topper.

On my 4Runner, I used a realtors lock box and locked it to my sliders up and out of the way to hold a spare key. I know there’s hitch lock boxes, but I usually keep a D ring in my hitch to deter people from bumping my truck.

Any solutions you’ve found are appreciated!

Teach your dog to unlock the door?

 

Get a metal key cut. It won’t start the truck, but will unlock the doors and hide it somewhere.

 

If you go this way - hide it by wrapping it around existing wire loom with electrical tape. Never falls off and never found by someone else.

 

For trips I always bring a spare key with a hide a key magnet case.

 

These work great. I have a front hitch and I dont think anyone ever notices it.

 

Keep in mind that these locks are trivial to decode with a piece of shimstock.

Some are loose enough to decode by sight.

Search for information on decoding Sesame style locks.
