In late to the convo, but you're not doing it wrong. After my son was conceived, I was alone for 10 years. It was mostly by choice. You seem like a good person already - I wasn't - so the journey will be a shorter one; but I found a place where it sounds like you're at, or at least near. I was finally fine being alone, and happy with myself. Still had things to improve like everyone else, but I didn't need someone 'to complete me' or 'help me through life' or any other platitude. That may seem like a foregone state of mind for most folks. Once I finally got there, doing real math about the person I was, I knew I was worth the people who were worth something to me. In fact, I was still using old-me weights and measures when I thought I'd found someone worth me and my son's time, and she wasn't. She wasn't worth me at all. All better now, though, and my 40's and 50's have been the best time in my life... Good luck.

 

Normal hitch is 7 on 7 off, and 4 of us do this to cover the position. Well, 2 took vacation on their nights, so I picked up some extra shifts on the front and back of my hitch.

I actually probably could tell the wife I need the weekend to pull the truck apart, but with my traveling the past few weeks she need some adult time out of the house. She’s good at giving me space when I need it. This time around I need to invest in her.

 

1000% took it as the joke that was. All good, and I'd way rather spend time with a good woman than a truck 99.9999% of the time, so totally applaud you prioritizing your wife.
