I call it Bane because it’s is the bane of my existence. The only other weapon I have had worse luck with was my Kimber Custom TL/RL pistol.

    Backstory:

I purchased this platform from an acquaintance that was on hard times. It cost me a 10 oz bar of silver (278.00 at the time). Not bad for an Areo/Alexandria Pro-Fab upper/lower, vltor collapsing stock, and some other goodies.

    Problem:

Damn BCG would not go into battery. Sometimes it would, but 90% of the time it would be a one fire and done. Now I realize that a new weapon might malfunction a bit in the break in period, but this was over the top.

I had a guy that I served with in the navy in TX. His son is a Marine and builds many different platforms for his local LEOs. So to say he is knowledgeable is an understatement at 22 years old. Just so happened that his son was wanting a break from the Texas oven temp’s, so he drove up to assist.

    - I had already checked the BCG, gas rings, o-ring…everything was good.

-Tried different magazines thinking one was faulty. Nope. At least I have plenty of spare mags now.

-checked my gas block and tube. Good there. Hell, even removed the gas tube to eliminate the chance it was hitting the gas key.

    - My friends kid came over, we totally broke down the weapon except the buffer/spring. I mean, what’s the chances some dumbass would install a AR-15 spring? We went through it all and just couldn’t make it work.

    - He left and then I got a package on my gate. He sent me a few different springs since this is the last thing we didn’t check or change out.

    30FB92AF-8443-4532-873D-5700BFC1AC45.jpg

Well the chances in this case are pretty high. Left to right: buffer, ar-15 spring, AR-10 carbine spring, and AR-10 Rifle spring.

I installed that AR-10 Carbine spring in and what do you know…cycles and goes into battery like it’s supposed to. Now to dial it in to around 200+ yards.

    Moral to the story…

Don’t trust anyone buying gun parts and that they are correct.

People seem to be less capable than ever these days. Glad you got it figured. Looks pretty sweet in that pic. You have any more with better lighting?

One of the big reasons why I won't buy homebuilt ARs

Any idiot with an Armorors wrench and YouTube can assemble the thing

Getting one to run right is a totally different game

    Glad it's running now

It needs a bi-pod. My 13 year old can’t even hold it up while standing. It’s a heavy boy. I handed it to her and she said “dad, I have to sit down for this one..”

She is really into guns, but this one will have to wait for her to fire. She can use the AR-15 until she is blue in the face.

Slick looking gun. The 10s are definitely stout, but from what I hear they shoot sweet with minimal recoil. Props on raisin' your daughter right, too.

She has her own guns..well both of them do.

    Browning Buckmark .22 pistols
Old ass octagon barrel pump .22 rifles
    Newer .22 rifles
.410 shotguns (pump) and single shot.
I do have a Remington Model 700 .243 and a Springfield 30.06 for them as well. After that, they need to start their own damn collection.

    So the curiosity got me.

    AR10 with 26 rounds of .308=12.4 lbs.

    AR-15 with 31 rounds of 5.56=8.4 lbs

That is a sweet AR10. I'm looking at putting together a similar platform except in 6.5 Creedmoor.

My neighbor hunts deer with one of those. Speaking of, I'm also looking for a youth deer hunting rifle. It would be my oldest's first. If you have any recs and it doesn't throw us too far off topic, I'd appreciate it. I was thinking something with a bit of a shorter barrel chambered in .243.

But only if the price is right.
Then I tear them apart and rebuild them right.

The .243 is a great all around rifle for
youths. I used mine on the last Montana hunt at 18 years old. I started using this rifle 32 years ago.

Part of the problem with AR-10s is not all of them use the same parts. An AR-15 you can pretty much buy AR-15 parts and interchange them amongst all of them. The AR-10's are based on different designs from one to the other some use DPMS design and others don't.

Can’t directly comment on that one.
All my stuff has various KeyMo muzzle devices to be able to mount my suppressor.

but Phase5 makes good shit - can’t imagine their brake to be any different.

I have this one https://precisionarmament.com/m4-72-severe-duty-compensator/ on my AR10 and have had good luck with it so far. It's a bit on the loud side but definitely helps control movement. The recoil feels like it's less than my AR15 but that may be due to the heavy stock that I have on the thing too.

    Also: Nice looking rifle!
