Looking to see if others hear a tailgate rattle when back window is down, and if so has anyone found a fix for getting rid of it. I can't emulate the rattle manually when messing with the tailgate but think it's either movement of the gate from it's mount point or possibly the rubber bump stops not being large enough to press against gate when closed.

    Anyone else have this issue?

On the 2nd gens you can loosen the screws on the latches that are mounted to the bed and push them forward a little bit, then retighten. This will hold the gate more snugly and eliminate the play. Not sure if this is doable on the 3rd gens but worth a look.

I created an account just to reply to this thread because I know how frustrating rattles can be, lol.

I, too, hear the rattling when the rear window is down. I'm not sure if mine is the same issue you and others have, but my issue wasn't the tailgate, it was the plastic bedside caps (for lack of a better description) that run the length of either side of the top of the bed. My driver side is tight, but the passenger side is slightly loose and when there's vibration applied to it then it rattles against the bedside. At some point, it will likely bother me enough that I take it off and try to do something about it but as of right now I haven't done anything to fix it. I may let the dealer deal with it the first time I take it in.

Before tearing into your guys' tailgates, I'd suggest inspecting these bedside plastic caps first.

These are the latches I was referring to just for reference. Not sure if the 22 uses the same style but these do slide forward a little in the 2nd gens. I’ve heard others complain of the 3rd gen bed rattle, no one has blamed the tailgate for it until this post that I’ve seen.

So had my Plat in for rear windows weatherstrip replacement (which still has gap but so far is staying in rather than popping out) and creaking/rattle noise over bumps from rear which is heard with back window down. They fixed the noise issue which was loose bed bolts that needed tightening. Report said they turned bolts 3 TIMES to tighten to specs.
So in short my truck passed quality control without this being caught. What else got passed 'quality control'?

If you have similar noise issue with rear window down I hope this helps. Can include pic of service order if someone needs for reference.

Where are the bed bolts located that they tightened? I may take a look at mine. Having same noise issue.

no doubt, makes me want to take a couple hours going around and checking tightness of everything. Wouldn't want to be driving down the road and have something fall off! Doesn't inspire confidence.

The latches noted above are actually one side of a latch mechanism that I referred to as clips...sorry for the confusion

Mine was more of a creak/rattle, your video sounds more like a clunk noise. Don't think it's the bed issue i had. Good luck with getting that resolved though.

I don't know the torque specs. The dealer tightened them during a service visit. When leaving the dealership it made a few creaks while in the parking lot but once on the road it went away. Hasn't returned since. I still have a minor rattle that i suspect is the tailgate. Planning on putting a rubber spacer on bed so tailgate play is removed once closed.

Not sure about you guys but on mine the rattle from the tailgate is the straps that go from the tailgate to the bed. They rattle like crazy where they are connected to the bed. I have not figured out a fix yet but something to check out if you have the rattle & not the clunk noise.

Just got my truck and noticed this today. Was also thinking the connection cables were the culprit.
