I think the point is anyone claiming it's a "towing beast" or the top of the towing chain for 1/2 tons needs to lay down the glass pipe for a bit and return to reality.
It's an adequate truck that is superseded by other manufacturers during its lifespan... but not the "super" truck the fanbois like to make it to be. Even it's "claim to fame" of being "solid as a rock" on reliability has been dinged over the last several years.
As long as one is aware of its towing limitations, it is a perfectly good truck.

Hahahaha!! I'm told they are called Murses - man purses...

As for the folks down under being able to re certify their rigs - I've brought this up elsewhere but it quickly gets shut down as blasphemy. However, stateside and in some parts of Canadia, some states allow a vehicle to be certified for a higher payload and tow rating - including a new DOT approved and issued door placard. Some require suspension/tire upgrades, some require a small demonstration (bring your trailer loaded up and visually inspect thigns). Florida is one of them. I don't live there, but where I am, you simply choose the GCVW for your registration of a personal vehicle. 16k, 20k, 24k... not exactly sure how high you are allowed to rate it, but as long as you pay the road tax, your vehicle is legally allowed to weigh that much with a trailer. it's something like $10/ton every year with the registration. But that's for utility/enclosed trailers only; if you are pulling a camp trailer, they flat don't care as long as you don't exceed 60k lbs or the max weight per axle (something like 23k per axle, IIRC). You can pull doubles (some places call them triples, but I'm referring to a tow rig and two trailers) even with a bumper pull (for a while I was told the first trailer had to be a gooseneck or fifth wheel, but that's not true).

I was talking to a state trooper the other day about trailers; he knows a friend of mine who owns a shop and is somewhat lax on trailer maintenance. He joked that he's just waiting for my buddy to deliver to a job site down the road from his house so he can impound the trailer. I asked him, 'because the guy overloads his trailers?' He replied, 'No; because his trailers look like they are one pothole from becoming roadkill. How much they weigh is no concern of mine.'

I wish the OP would show up and post a picture of his setup. Ya, it's been a few years, but I had to laugh out loud when I saw his profile say 2019 Tacoma, not 2019 Tundra.

Just had some guy ask me why I have a truck and if I'm sure something like a Subaru Outback can't tow my 28', 6500 lb trailer.

Some Outback's are rated to tow 3500 lbs, so I say go for it...

I'm reasonably sure that capacity is under stated.

Combine that with the FACT that the Tundra's towing capacity is over stated and I'm willing to bet that Outback can tow more than any of our trucks.
