E brake cable hangers

So from what I can understand, if you have rusty e brake cable hangers you cant just go buy the hangers you have to buy the whole cable assembly that has the hangers already attached.
If this is true can I take the hangers off the new cable to put on vehicle..I dont want to go through all the hassle of replacing the whole cable that is fine, just to replace a rusted out hanger or two.
