Vibration while stopped and in gear

I have a2003 Tundra T3 Edition. When I'm at a stop sign or light it will do a loud sound/vibration. When I start to drive it stops, and doesn't do it while I'm park. I've tried to see what it is for awhile but haven't been able to pin point it.

post up some video of the issue. Would also be helpful to list more about the truck- miles, mods, up to date on maintenance?

 

And is the vibration feeling like ... maybe a rough idle? Or like the truck wants to keep going forward but can't? What do the RPM look like in this case, do they drop or rise, and how many RPM is it while vibrating?

What happens if you:

• Shift to Neutral and keep your foot on the brake?
• Shift to Park and keep your foot on the brake?
• Shift back to Neutral, but take your foot off the brake?
• Shift back to park but take your foot off the brake?

I ask these four questions so we can understand if the vibration is maybe a result of (A) depressing the brake pedal or (B) Braking while in gear.

You're telling us the car vibrates while it's in gear but unable to move, but it's fine when in gear and able to move. So this is why I wonder what other cases you tried.

Sounds like a worn-out transmission mount.

 

Check the mid drive shaft mount. If it sags, then the bushing is broken. Always go with factory Toyota bushing on that. I went with Autozone bushing and it lasted for only 1 week.

Any chance your truck is 2WD and you periodically hear a 'thunk' off the line and on bumps? Thinking about T-SB-0067-09 here ...

 

I have this problem on 06 dc 2 wd. Anyone had this fixed? Cost? Is it a concern?

 

@alb1k is the only person who comes to mind that's bought the part.

Seriously, this is something you can absolutely do yourself if you have the most basic tools.

In fact, many people with this problem have said, backing each bolt out, adding blue threadlock, and reinstalling (hell, just torquing them down w/o removing) solves the problem well enough.

The big issue is, from what I gather, the material used as shock absorber compresses over time. That basically creates a gap.

 

I had it a year or two ago. I did the blue loctite and no problems since.

I even bought the updated bolts, just in case they came loose again but never changed them.

 

I crawled under to tighten bolts. Found two missing from the mount and other two very loose. Also two missing from the trans housing. I could tell that the two missing from the mount were at one time there because of the color around the holes. The two missing from the housing i could not tell if they were ever in place. I found the two for the mount online Toyota South and are on the way. Not sure what to do about the other two.

Are these the two you're identifying as "missing from the housing"?

 

Yes, Those two holes don't look so important to keeping things together. What are they?

 

Torque converter cover plate, bolts should come from the other side.

Problem noise is no longer annoying me After tightening the two remaining bolts holding the mount to the cross member. They were both looser than finger tight. I should get the other two I have ordered in a day or two and I'll put them in. I have driven several times and its has not made that popping clunking sound. Its like driving a new truck. Much quieter than my 2018 Kia Optima. Thanks to this this site and is members for your help.

 

Totally. Do yourself a favor. Get some Loctite blue (specifically the blue one) for installing the bolts on arrival. It's a really, really light threadlock, similar to using fingernail polish to paint something shut. If you ever need to remove it later, you won't need to use heat to remove, like you would with red threadlock.

Loctite sells their threadlock in a tube, like lip balm, that I prefer to use in cases like this.

 

I can say after having done everything except replace the trans, there is still some let's go now! thud now and then. It's better with the new crossmember and and trans mount, more like rear end take up. 4.7 just wants the skinny pedal I think.
