Might be a dumb question, but if I get a new set of 4 tires (keep stock wheels), should I buy a 5th and have it attached to the spare wheel? If so, will it fit? Looking at Nitto Ridge Grappler 285/65/R20 or Toyo A/T III 35/11.5/R20

The Nitto Ridge Grappler will be 34.8" and AT3 will measures 34.5".

A member manage to put 315/70R17 as spare, he deflated it to 15psi though and believe that tire size comes out to 34.4".
2022+ anyone stuffed a ~35 in the spare tire holder?

I did that with my 13 Rock Warrior, I actually got a 5th RW wheel and had it as spare. My fear was to be towing and needed a spare. Didn’t want to run 3 big tires and 1 small while towing our trailer.

I bought a barely used tire for that purpose. Cost was $150 rather than $400. There is a place on ebay that sells a lot of them with 100% feedback.

i don't know about yours, but my 22 sport edition came with an 18 inch spare, so if you want another the same size as what is on the truck, your going to need a 5th 20 inch wheel

No, you just need a tire that is the same outside diameter.

    Some.
Having a spare tire with the same OD as what you run is beneficial. It makes it so you don't have to swap multiple tires around if you puncture a rear tire. You want your rear tires to be roughly the same size and run the spare on the front of it is smaller. It'll keep your diff happy and you happier by not having flashing lights and buzzers saying you are losing traction.
Having a full size spare (not necessarily a matching) will allow you to more comfortably travel a further distance to get the flat one fixed/replaced.
I have OBA on my truck, but I have found that the Ridgid tire inflator (18v so it can share a battery with my impact) performs very well and tucks under my back seat for when I need it, no if about me needing it on my job.

I had the same issue. Went with 295/65r20 Toyo A/T III for the four corners and 285/75r18 for the spare. Not ideal but close enough that I’m comfortable especially once the 4 main tires start wearing down.
