Well then. This is what you get when personal responsibility is no longer of any real value.

But, idiot-proofing never works. It just makes for better idiots. And down we go…

People still need an annoying reminder to buckle up? Its such a habit for me that there could be zero reminder and I'd still put it on

I always buckle up when driving, however there are times that I want it off. While moving around the 5th wheel, driving on farm roads, etc. The thing I love about my current RAM is that I can turn the dinging off. Is there any way you do this on a Tundra too?

On a 2011? For sure, just need Techstream to do it.

Mine doesn't seem to ding if I'm just maneuvering my truck trying to hitch up my trailer or something like that.

Mine starts dinging at 20 mph. I'm buckled, but the missus is slow on the draw!

My 2013 turns itself off after about 30 seconds, is that not standard on the earlier Toyota's or is mine in a little world all it's own?

As for the link in the original post, a 2/5 reliability score for the '22 model is a trifle depressing.

The ding should be an easy thing to disable. It was on my 2009 Tacoma. Toyota decided to make it harder for the 2014 model and even though the owners manual stated it was customizable my dealer refused to do it. On the 2014 I just disconnected under the seat. There are plenty of people that use there trucks on farms and ranches and you should be able to disable it. On my Tundra I try to remember to just fasten my seat belt behind me at the first gate. The problem is I sometimes forget to unfasten it at the last gate on the way out. There are I times I just say the heck with it and drive to my first stop without the seat belt fastened.

It’s been so long that I honestly can’t remember what my ‘08 did other than freak out of there was something on the passenger’s seat when the belt wasn’t buckled. Like my lunchbox, or a daypack when going hunting. I killed it all off, and buckle up in peace.

Man my 2001 Tacoma, I just unplug the connector going into the seat belt. Seat belt dinger gone forever. Probably can't do that on these trucks now with how tied in all the electrical systems are, boo

The seatbelt ding holds you hostage in the 2022 until you put it on. I also always wear mine. Survived a wreck in high school and got ejected because I wasn't wearing my seatbelt, not looking to roll those dice again. But just the other day I was leaving the liquor store and headed to the grocery store. They share a parking lot, and I didn't strap in because it was like a 500 foot drive and I was only going about 10 mph. The thing relentlessly dings at you in the most obnoxious way. A couple days later, my infant was fussing in his car seat, and my wife unbuckled on the highway to reach back and give him his pacifier, and the truck had a complete meltdown about that the instant she unbuckled. I am all for safety measures, but this one is a bit on the excessive side.

My wife's 2022 Highlander is the same way, very annoying. It gets louder too!

This right here. When I'm getting in the car to actually go somewhere I buckle up 100% of the time before I even turn the car on, but I own an old run down 80 acre farm property that we recently purchased. Truck will be seeing a ton of low speed fields use while I fix this place up and that dinging every time I jump in just to move the truck 50 yards will get annoying fast.

Tractoring round fields is precisely the reason I know my 2nd gen does eventually switch off. It does the 'gentle', comparatively speaking, warning for about 15 seconds then goes batshit crazy for about 15 seconds more before giving up.

The passenger seat belt warning on mine must be faulty because I can load about 30 lbs in the seat before it goes off and the A-hole sensor always seems to wait until about ten minutes into a trip before it goes off, scared the bejeezus out of me the first time it happened. Bloody thing is more of a hazard than not - as my truck rarely sees passengers and the seat is always piled high with builders crud, cool box, etc...

Which is also a hazard in itself...

I took my truck in for the recall stuff and my tech turned it off for me, hallelujah. Light flashes but no sound. He tried to figure out how to turn off the automatic engagement of the parking brake if you open your door unbuckled but couldn’t find it.

I confirmed today that if my truck is already running and I jump out for some reason then get back in and don't put my seatbelt back on, it will give me 3 subdued dings after about 30 seconds of driving. Very manageable.
