Dumptruck passing me threw up a nice rock that put a chip in the windshield that's turned into a crack and the whole thing needs to be replaced. Of course the "new truck, no parts" thing has happened and dealer says they're backordered, no ETA, and I have a 1000-mile road trip coming up in August and really don't want to do it with a cracked windshield.

I'm assuming that everyone is in the same boat, but just posting here in the faint hope that somebody, somewhere might have a line on one (like a dealer that has one in stock somewhere) that I could buy and have shipped to my dealer.

    Thanks for looking.

debadged, diamondback, window tint, dirty deeds exhaust.
We used to have the same issue with Aircraft parts when we got a new Airframe. Sometimes would have to wait for a part to be pulled off assembly line. The shortages and everything else probably just making it worse at this point of time.

I'm waiting on a main sensor replacement. The part was ordered on May 31st. Supposed to reach the distributer on the 24th and who knows when it will get to the dealership.

Toyota seems more concerned about cranking out more vehicles than they do about current customers.

A lot of the issues are supply chain related for every manufacturer, any windshield they get are probably already designated for a "to be built" truck with only a small percentage designated for dealer replacement. That's the turd bowl we are currently in...

Do you mind me asking how much a new OEM winshield is? I have a chip (no crack), but it is big enough after being filled that it is still visible and still pisses me off. Thanks.

Good news! While my dealer (in Reno, NV) was basically just "I'll put you on the wait list, who knows when" my local autoglass shop called around and found another dealer in Sacramento that can get one, ETA 5 days. My quote is $1025 installed.

Ouch. Sounds like a good reason to buy a dash cam.

My quote was around $1400 in the Bay Area. I decided to live with my cracks for a while.

$1000 for the windshield, rest was for PVM/Camera/Sensor Calibration.

    Stupid expensive…

It’s not just new trucks that have the issue. I wanted to replace the windshield in my old 2500HD before I sold it. Took five months before the local auto glass shop managed to get one.

My 22 glass is toast after 15000 miles, not looking forward to spending $1200-1500 for new, groan.

So does the windshield require recalibration? I’d greatly appreciate the advice. As I have to replace my windshield at 2k miles, already had my windshield cracked. Ughh

Don't some states have no deductible front windshield replacement? I also wonder if you do use them for the front windshield if they will screw you for the next 5 years with a higher premium. Insurance companies suck.

Florida is one and it's great. I haven't averaged more than 3-5 years without needing to get a new windshield. Granted, our rates are stupid high. I'd much rather better insurance rates than windshield replacement, but is what it is.

I knew I had heard something like that. I have never had to use it that's why I wasn't sure if it was still a thing. I am in Miami so yeah, our rates are ridiculous and they only keep going up.

Had to replace my windshield last March. Used Glass America which ordered the windshield through my local Toyota dealer. Had the windshield in 3 days. Glass America replaced the windshield in their shop in approx 4 hours including all required calibrations. So far no issues.

    Greetings!
Unfortunately, I have, as well, a broken windshield which occurred over 6 weeks ago on 2022 Tundra Limited. Into the 7th week, the Toyota windshield remains on backorder. The Toyota parts department said there are approximately 275 windshields (GEN 3 Tundra) on backorder and there is no estimated "shipping date". I contacted Toyota corporate 2 days ago. The said "they would look into the problem". The local glass company claims they can get an aftermarket windshield immediately. The lack of customer support offered by Toyota for owners wanting an OEM windshield is hard to believe. If there are windshields available for production of new vehicles, then management should re-direct some of these to existing owners who are waiting in limbo. Having to wait 2 months or more for a windshield is inexcusable. The "supply chain issue" excuse can't be used forever.

Is this for an SR or SR5? I wonder if the Limited and up trims “laminated” front windshields are harder to get than the poor man’s SR/SR5 front windshield? Or maybe I’m an idiot and the front side windows are laminated in Limited and up trims.

Be glad you're not driving a new Gladiator. Apparently those windshields are prone to cracking often partly because of how vertical they sit and also because of the glass itself. Glad I sold my Gladiator while the used market was still hot.

My windshield is also back ordered. I had them drill the glass and place repair resin in it to stop the crack from spreading while I wait.

Interestingly a highly recommended shop stated they could acquire a genuine Toyota windshield in a week. Supposedly they had several sources for the windshield…. I think I’ll pass if everyone else is waiting for so long.

Unfortunately they will keep using it to rip customers off. This is one reason I refuse to move up to the 3rd gen. They can go price gouge others, I won't fall for it. There is no reason why production shouldn't be back to normal, but in a capitalist market this is one of the cons of it.

You guys are lucky. 2 weeks old and I have a 5000 lb. paperweight. Funny thing is they have a lot full of trucks, but no windshields.

at least you dont have the hud display. i wonder if that requires a different special windshield or it it just a stick on insert on the inside windshield.

It probably has a special windshield that has the HUD compatible stuff built in. I just had my windshield replaced on my 2020 and it had the stuff for the camera mount and rear view mount already on it.

I believe it is another windshield. Either way, they should have windshields in stock. I don't even feel safe driving it because it is compromised. Also, there's a chance of getting pulled over and leaks if it rains.
