    I have a 2021 F150 Powerboost (hybrid) Platinum. I drive very mellow and I'm getting about 22mpg (non-towing). If I'm around town and under 45 mph and hit all the stop lights green, I can get in the 30-35 mpg range since I'm mostly electric, but I don't know how anyone would get better than 21-23 with this engine, driving chill, but stop/start, traffic, etc. Was hoping the Tundra hybrid would do better than what people are reporting as I'm a Toyota guy and want a Tundra once the kinks are worked out.

    Yet Toyota (and other manufacturers) spent time and $ developing a way to pipe in fake engine noises. So I guess it's a real thing. I'll admit, I too like the rumble of a V8, but ultimately whatever is under the hood is what I want to hear naturally. I don't want piped in noise or simulations - I'm old(er) and that phony stuff just bugs me. I also prefer real sugar, regular (non-light) beer, and beef made from actual cows.

    As for "better engine", what you think is better someone else may disagree with for various reasons. A lot of folks think a small displacement n/a 4 banger that lasts forever is the best engine ever made. I think I read that on a Tacoma forum, and I personally think those folks are crazy, but thems their priorities in life.

    I just went through the purchase process in the PNW. First let me say, I looked at dealers in these states: WA, OR, NV, ID, MN, MT, MO, NC, TX, NY, IN, OH due to the price gouging/lack of inventory. It's a dreary affair, here's what I saw happening in the wild.
    1. Dealers saying they don't have markups but have non-negotiable dealer added accessories of 6-16k.
    2. Dealers truly not having markups or pushing accessories, but not selling outside a 90 miles radius of their dealership
    3. Dealers doing small markups but taking reservations and only doing so with a non refundable deposit, typically $500-$2000. These reservations have very optimistic delivery dates that "oops" just keep getting pushed back.
    4. Dealers listing "new" inventory, but if you show only showing you used 2022s--which are marked up worse than "new". Had someone show me a used platinum only to find out there markup made it 99.9k out the door.
    5. Dealers that guarantee getting you what you want, mostly Houston area, but wanting 10k in markup, and 6k+ in dealer accessory adds
    Because of the low inventory, I didn't feel like I could get what I really wanted in terms of the packages for my trim. (For example I'd have liked to have the tow assist/digital rearview).

    If I had had a truck already, I would wait till later 2023 and get exactly what I want rather than deal with all the noise, maybe that will jive really well with you waiting for Toyota manufacturing to dial it in. There's a great deal of momentum building in the news/blogging world around the notion that automotive repos are about to head toward an all time high as more and more people are defaulting on their monthly payments. The average monthly payment is now at $722, so that seems pretty unsustainable.

    My work truck is a PowerBoost XLT, and I've been getting 25-27 around town and about 30-35 hwy. It's a nice truck with good torque and power. I'm hoping that within the next 3-5 years Toyota's hybrid engine that they put in the truck/SUV will be truly "hybrid" efficient. I too am a Toyota guy and have been for years. I've owned a HiLux, pick up, Tacoma, and 2 Tundra's, and have been happy with overall build quality and longevity.

    30 mpg? That’s not sustainable at all on one of these gas hybrid trucks. 35 mpg is a pipe dream.

    I average 29-33 mpg in my work PowerBoost. I've gotten 34-35 a handful of times. Usually on the long stretches of open flat highways.
