Question. Would a 2.5 gen bed fit on a 2nd gen? (Got my title messed up)

Yes Toyota made 3 bed lengths for these years. All crew cabs are 5.5Ft, Double Cab and Regular Cab can be 6.5 Ft or 8 Ft.

I have a 2007 regular cab with a 6.5Ft bed and installed a 2017 bed from a double cab. It bolted right on, rear bumper is different and so is taillight wiring/ taillights. In the photo top is 2007 bed, bottom 2017 bed.

The 2.5 Gen (2014-2021) was just a physical appearance refresh really. I haven’t seen a newer bed on an older crew max but I see no reason why it wouldn’t work.

So you did a front and rear update. Interesting. Have you done a write up on the instructions and caveats of doing this? Kinda cool.

I did the interior and dash also. Got a little carried away but after 2014 you couldn’t buy a regular cab short bed anymore so I decided to make my own 2018+ version.

You can see the full build here, lots of pictures and write up. https://www.tundras.com/threads/the...014-conversion-front-clip-interior-bed.90281/

Anything can be done if you have the funds and time. I don’t know that it’s practical to do the full conversion on 2007-2013 crew max and double cab trucks because you can just got buy one that way if it’s what you really want.

The writeup was phenomenal. Question, was everything on the bed swap plug and play? Lights, rear camera, hitch, locks? Wondering.

My truck didn’t have a rear camera but I added in the factory one. Taillight connectors are different and it’s kind of a pain to find the right one. I was luck my bed came with the newer style taillight harness. I have the 07 hitch on mine and the new style bumper bolted right to it.

The taillight wiring is definitely the biggest hurdle.

I have bed rot and was thinking of putting a Gen 3 backside on my Gen 2. What harness issue did you run into and was this just a matter of splicing in the wires? Will my existing bumper work ?I took your pictures and spliced them in and this is what it would look like. I don't think it looks too bad as I'm not trying to impress, just trying to get longevity. I do know I will not have that beautiful TRD Pro bed due to the cost and difficulty of finding one.

I spliced the wiring together with the soldering iron and some heat shrink. The tailights have different style connectors.

You will need the newer bumper also as the rear of the bed is different shaped. It’s bolt on
