@Kagisexton - I have a 2005 Suburban with 290K miles that’s been just as reliable as my Tundras. It’s my go-to for long drives because the seats are way better than Toyota. The Bose premium sound system still rocks it and the car can cruise quietly and effortlessly at 80. It’s averaged 16.1 mpg over its life and it’s paid for many years ago. I wouldn’t call GM shit. Both different but good.

That's one of the things I miss the most from my '04 Accord. I'd miss it even more if I still lived in TX.

That’s pretty impressive. How many fuel pumps, water pumps, alternators have you gone through? Original trans?

Glad the issue was resolved to your satisfaction.

Take away lesson here for me is: Trust but verify when having a shop do an oil change. Pull the dipstick to ensure the correct oil level, and that clean oil is in fact what is in the pan, then re-seat the dipstick yourself.

I can’t speak for him, but the 3rd party contractor we use to haul RR crews around runs a fleet of Suburbans, Yukons, and Expeditions. The Fords are utter crap, but all the GM’s do pretty well as long as they don’t have the stupid variable displacement system. So the older ones would routinely make 450,000 to 500,000 miles.

The newer ones are not quite as good, but still better than the Fords. I’ve seen two of their Cadillac Escalades (not sure why they bought those) with DFM need new engines in less than 200K miles. Lots of idle time and indifferent maintenance murder those things. Same for the Fords with the 3.5L EcoBoost.

Well. I usually come on here and mercilessly hammer the dealerships. And sometimes (though I don't hammer but rather feather tickle) the OP for going to the dealership.

But here it sounds like they made their PHVCK UP right. Good for them.

Now. I hope you reward them by....never going there again. We can blame the oil monkey tech. However the truth is: the problem is systemic and starts WAY WAY WAY further up the chain of command.

Can one just go into a dealer and ask for this?

Though I may want to keep my rear seatbelt warning as my 4 year old will ‘remove herself’ from her booster in the middle of the freeway to pick up a toy she dropped on the floor :angrygirl:

…but I can surely do with the other updates.

Unless you have a hook up at the dealer, you could probably buy several copies of Techstream with the OBD cable to do it yourself for what they’d charge.

BigJuice....you should be able to go to the dealer you purchased from and ask about it. In my case, the service reception desk told me that it requires a "special" appointment, yadda yadda, because it takes so long....but they would be willing to do it on the 10,000 service check.

But when the service manager realized their goof with the dipstick he was willing to do anything to make me happy. The technician with the Techstream laptop spent about 15 minutes with me at the computer manipulating settings. Of note, it took the Techstream about 5 minutes to initialize to the truck and 10 minutes to browse the options on my trim level and make the changes....the technician was super cool, clearly a more experienced maintenance individual over others in the area.

    Good luck.

Thanks…the folks up at Rodland Toyota in Everett have been pretty good to me over the years so I will ask and see what the response is.

@AZBoatHauler - No fuel pumps, one water pump, two batteries, one pair ball joints and LCAs, one front diff axle seal, two front wheel bearings, one 4WD encoder motor sensor, one blow motor relay, one washer fluid pump and one evap vent solenoid. I don't thinks bad for 290K miles

Awful. Make them fix it, and then never go back again.

Stuff like this is exactly why I’ve never been back to the dealer for anything. Well, that and the whole no issues with my truck thing…
