A 30' camper it way too much for any half ton pickup regardless the advertisements.

Pay an insurance claim? Not sure they would be able to deny one.

Is this a high winds area? Or steep grade perhaps? Wonder what caused this to happen.

I am certain that the insurance will look at the trailer specs and the manufacturer ability of the truck - if it's a 30'+ trailer, I can pretty confidently say that the trailer exceeds advertised and recommended specs of the trailer. Insurance can (and will) deny that claim if that's the case........

Plenty of trailers that length that will come in under the Tundras max towing specs.

Towing specs include payload.....there are a lot of factors that will be taken into account. No arguing at all - just making an observation. And hope all parties involved are safe and able to recoup their losses.....

    Agree.
Steep grades and high winds don’t care about truck specs. The driver should. Being at or near max in challenging conditions isn’t a good idea. Towing beyond the drivers comfort / skill level is a bad idea as well. It’s been parroted here a million times.

That stretch of highway is pretty flat all the way to Grand Junction. That’s a lot of trailer behind a half ton.

Only the people in the truck know what happened and who might be at fault. It might've been a wind gust, an animal, another driver that cut him off forcing the Tundra to overcorrect and lose control, or it simply could've been too much weight for the Tundra. It really could be dozens of things.

While it's fun to speculate what might've happened and who is to blame, I wouldn't put this on blast in such a public forum. That's just me.

I would hate to think that Tundra driver is a member of this forum and he/she finally makes it home after this nightmare only to find a bunch of us keyboard warriors speculating about it was his/her fault. I just don't think it's right to kick a person while they're down.

My 2 cents. I'll standby and prepare to get roasted, I suppose.

As someone who works as an adjuster this wont happen, the insurance company will pay for the claim as long as he has collision coverage which I would expect considering its a new truck.

While i can appreciate your point of view and expertise, it depends on the company. My mother was involved in a collision where an overloaded trailer caused a massive accident. The drivers insurance coverage did everything they could to pin the fault on the driver and find ways out of paying claims to other involved motorists. My mother had her car totaled and numerous hospital bills - her insurance had to pick up the tab and had to hire a lawyer to recoup other expenses. Maybe this would be different since it seems to only involve the tow vehicle and trailer, but I don't think it's that cut and dry.

You are literally the only person on the entire internet who has proof that towing over capacity can get your coverage denied. I don't mean that in a condescending way either. This has been discussed a billion times and no one has ever pointed to a specific scenario where that has happened that I have ever seen.

That said, it seems like that insurance company sucks. Since they took him on as a client and set whatever rate they decided, they should be on the hook for covering him regardless of who is at fault. I pay extra money each month so that if I hit a car and swerve off the road and drive through someones living room, I have coverage.

I find that very hard to believe but again not here to argue. But love that you want to interject on something you know absolutely nothing about and question it. I have no dog in the fight other than to say towing over capacity is dangerous and irresponsible, that my mother was involved in this incident and that the insurance company claimed that the driver was not operating in the manner disclosed under his policy..........you can doubt the story all you want - we spent MONTHS and thousands of dollars litigating it.
