I noticed in the Platinum with the air variable suspension there is a comfort mode. What actually changes when you switch to that mode?

    Thanks

I'd guess the ride is more comfortable..

It softens the suspension and I believe lightens the steering feedback a touch. Also, when you are looking at the gauge cluster while working through the modes on the platinum, it highlights the parts of the truck that change in the color blue.

I just want to apologize. I knew it would probably be clear in the Manual. I was just taking the lazy way out. Thank you for posting.

you will be surprised how much you learn from a read thru of a manual. even though a lot of toyota stuff carries over from model to model and gen to gen, you still learn a lot of neat new stuff.

regardless, i still sit down and read thru front to back when i have time. heck you can even get a pdf version to read. since i smoke i usually have the book in the garage to read during smokes or the pdf on the phone when on the toilet :)

or if i am really bored and waiting for something to process on the computer i read thru it.

It is interesting that they recommend it for city driving. I have AVS, and live in a city, and comfort mode is just terrible in that application. You feel like you are bouncing all over the place if you hit a bump going under 40 mph. Where I have found comfort mode useful is on the highway. It pretty much nullifies any bumps from small potholes, or when going across bridges, uneven lanes, etc. When driving around in my neighborhood/local areas, I generally keep it in normal mode. I haven't noticed a difference between normal and sport modes though. The suspension feels about the same there.

I agree, better on highway. Unfortunately, when you hit those wide dips the suspension bottoms out on the bumpers. I've still got to adjust the linkage to stop that, it's on the list. Eco mode to me is pointless. MPG gain is non existent and the AC works like garbage in that mode.

one thing the manual doesn't say what it actually does. when going to comfort the suspension damping (compression and rebound) is adjusted so it's not as aggressive. this will create a more supple/soft feel in the ride versus quick (or little damping) on rebound for example which can translate to a more bouncy/stiff ride. going to sport+ will do the opposite creating a more responsive suspension. there are also engine changes that happen electronically. shifting will happen at lower rpm's in comfort mode which helps translate to the comfort ride whereas in sport+ shift points are held at higher rpm's.

comfort and sport+ are the only two drive modes that adjust suspension. i like to use comfort in the city and highways. sport/sport+ for mtns, hills, etc.
