I tow an older camper that has been restored...The battery is connected directly to the 12v circuit from the truck.

Assuming that the truck's 12v accessory feed is always on, doesn't the camper battery overcharge during long periods of driving?

    Thanks for you feedback.

Nope. As long as the battery is the same type. i.e. flooded lead acid. The truck alternator and internal regulator treat it like a larger capacity battery and will charge it (eventually) to the same voltage as the truck battery.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the camper battery is a flooded lead acid deep cycle.

When you say connected directly do you mean through the 7 pin trailer connector? That's the preferred way of doing it. Last fall while heading south we camped two nights in a row on battery power and my 21 had no problem charging the trailer battery back up the next day while driving.

    Yes, through the 7 pin.

Just check the water regularly and add distilled if it needs it. I thought I had a deep cycle going bad on the boat. It just needed water and us now fine.
