I've seen several references to Civivi knives lately so I decided to add one to the collection. I am very impressed. Even the fact that it comes in a padded pouch and with cleaning cloth was a welcome surprise for a knife of such budget price point.

I dig that knife. Ortis? Every folder deserves multiple deployments. Keep us posted as you dig in.

I promise, under penalty of death, never to use my Amazon special knife sharpener on my @gosolo blade.

Might be some questionable blades in there, but I see a few Forschner/Fibrox and at least one Cutco. Might not be Ray Taber's, but definitely not jankie.

I took inspiration for some of the design elements from the traditional Buck model 119 after @Outbound said it was one of his favorites.

The 119 is an awesome knife.

What is the symbol on the center rivet called? I knew at one time, but the CRS is progressing to CRAFT.

I don’t know if that’s an actual symbol, my friend. It’s a mosaic pin and it goes all the way through the handle. That particular pin is made with 6 small tubes stuffed into the larger tube and then colored resin is injected from one end until it comes out the other end.

Pulled out my PaPa’s Schrade Old Timer fillet knife to to trim up the fat on a brisket tonight.
This knife is older than me, is well used and still holds an amazingly sharp edge.
PaPa purchase this knife in 1963.
He passed in 1988. RIP PaPa.
    Thanks for the blade.

Those knives our fathers and grandfathers had are treasures to appreciate, for sure. Usually they were also quality carbon steel.

9FDA9755-D580-47F9-A5E7-98247DA94287.jpg Finished this little one this morning. 75 layers of 1084 & 15n20 Damascus.
The scales are prickly pear skeleton that I cast in clear epoxy. I have always been bummed out about the amount of beautiful pattern that got covered up with the handles. It’s cool to be able to see the entire blade steel through the scales! It looks like the handle would be super slick... are you able to get enough positive friction to prevent slippage, etc..

That’s certainly true. I could not get this epoxy to be clear without a high level of fine sanding, polishing and buffing.
Grip is another question, though. This is a discussion within the knife making community and there’s 2 primary schools of thought. (blood and grease are the most common culprits)
    1) A handle needs grooves and/or texture to assure your grip
    2) A well designed handle that fits the hand is completely adequate and needs nothing more.
My tendency is to go most strongly with the second of these. For maximum surface grip, a g10 or micarta canvas that is finished to no more than a 400 grit is about perfect. As it gets wet the exposed canvas fibers actually make it more grippy.
This little knife fits snugly in the hand with a 3 finger grip. The little finger lays at the back of the handle butt and locks it in. It’s similar to the grip on my Walther PPS, with the 5 round magazine.

What is real Damascus? What is real? Are we really here, or are we just figures in some greater being’s dream? What is truth? Is it what I say it is today? But might the truth be different tomorrow? Is my truth the same as your truth?
