Agree it’s hard to know if the benefit is tied to the size. For me, at 160k, I wanted to replace everything so WL seemed a smarter plan. I think I may have some WE pads somewhere still.

Not really. I replaced the brake pedal return spring hoping it would solve my squeak. That doesn't impact travel at all though. It only helps the pedal return to starting position. And it was long after my issues started.

Well I had to go aftermarket because they discontinued the MC too, but yes it was a direct bolt up(same part). And yes, I only replaced the MC to try and solve the squishy after members suggested it. All this started the day I installed the damn Lexus calipers.

Completely agree. No one has had issues going that route. That's why I feel I should have just done that.

No I don't believe so. There are differences between access and double cabs though. The diameter on yours is actually slightly smaller.

Really nothing to it. A few people said they didn't have to trim them and other did. If you were able to clear the calipers when you did the install then you're fine.

 

I didn't physically measure anything but the MC diameter is stamped on it. And both were the same. But since all this started before I did the MC replacement I'm thinking it's not the cause.

 

Diameter is different from the bore depth.

I dunno. It could be interesting to mode the bracket on the pedal (if possible on the 2002) 2-3 threads toward the pedal. And it would be interesting to move the pushrod 2-3 threads towards the MC bore. Start the truck up, step on the pedal a couple of times. Jack up the front of the truck and make sure the brakes aren't dragging. If not, road test.

If it were me, I'd consult FSM first, surely it must have a note about adjusting the pushrod etc.

 

Oh I see now. Depth=length? You're wondering if it's having to travel further. If this started with the new MC I would explore that thought. Good point though.

Line pressure is the key, but diameters, volume and surface area all play into it, as I'm reading. The larger caliper pistons should apply more force, but they need the volume to maintain the line pressure. And then there's that last paragraph down there... SO - I'm no help. Uhg.


When a hydraulic system is used, the only mechanical leverage is in the foot pedal linkage. However, varying the diameter of the wheel cylinders or caliper diameters, in relation to the master cylinder bore diameter, provides an additional increase in ratio.

In a hydraulic system, the pressure delivered by the various wheel cylinders is directly affected by the areas of their pistons. For example, if one wheel-cylinder piston has an area of 2 square inches, and another piston has an area of 1 square inch, and the system pressure is 400 psi, the 2-square-inch piston will push against the brake shoes with a force of 800 pounds. The 1-square-inch piston will exert a force of 400 pounds. The ratio between the areas of the master cylinder and the wheel cylinders determine the multiplication of force at the wheel cylinder pistons.

Keep in mind that the larger a wheel cylinder’s diameter, the more fluid must be supplied by the master cylinder to fill it. This translates into a longer master-cylinder stroke.

If the master cylinder bore diameter is increased and the applying force remains the same, less pressure will be developed in the system, but a larger wheel-cylinder piston can be used to achieve the desired pressure at the wheel cylinder. Obviously, a replacement master cylinder, wheel cylinder or caliper must be of the same design and bore as the original unit.

I got so lucky. I had been watching them and then one day like 20% off. 4WP was moving out the gen 2, about to get the new versions. I saw the price on gen 3 and said holy balls.

@alb1k Django is a ham bone(just like my boys) he’d run off to say what’s up to randos walking to close, and then haul ass back when we’d call him or notice he was gone.

I'm not there, but he wanted to swim with his mom - first time. Almost drowned.

 

I wasn't there, but my wife said it was awful. She's got the scratches to prove the fear. But it's new for him - he will go out again if she's in the water. Who knew a retriever could not swim at birth?

 

I know. Let them go off on their own and chaos ensues. I would have that dog synchronized swimming by now

 

Our old boy dozer loved to swim but he was big! So he got tired and couldn’t keep up with the little one, who we then did the same. We got him a life jacket, he loved it!!!!! He almost showed off out in the water, like hey look at me I can do circles!!!

 

River is too low to take him swimming.

 

Dropping off the tundra to the guy that will be making the custom exhaust. Cats are welded on to the flanges, 3” to 2.5” reducers on the cars as well. He will do the x pipe, figure out muffler mounting, and the tail pipes (if he can fit them. The full-size spare takes up a lot of room.) Not looking for dual one out each side, but both out the passenger side

 

Anyone got good advice on best ways to grind out welds for idiots who don’t own a grinder? I’m using a dremel and a cutoff wheel right now.
