Bought my first handgun! Glock 19. Needs & Mods?

I have 4 Gen 2s.
My beater G17



My pristine G19 and G17.
Safe queens to be given to my kids..



My Gen 2 G21, although I had the slide and barrel plated in electroless nickel..
Shooting this gun is like shooting a 22cal.
Ker plunk, ker plunk, ker plunk, very little recoil..




Still have first-generation Gen 2.5 G26
Had a Gen 2.5 G33 but I sold it when I condensed calibers a few years ago.



Had the G33 slide and barrel electroless nickel plated, but sold it off.



I had a Gen 1 17 for about a year.
Should have kept it for nostalgia's sake, but sold it because the nonexistent grip texture was like a wet fish when shooting it.
At that time, I couldn't afford safe queens, now I would have kept it.

 

Not sure what state you are in but the Glock 9mm 33rd mags are readily available in the free states..

I'm thinking (2); one for the 17,19,22,23,45, etc... and one for the 20,21, etc...

 

Learn to shoot safely.
Get a holster, extra mags, and bulk targets.
Buy some snaps to practice repetition.
Practice consistently.
Don't mod anything until you know what you need, and why you need it.
Clean your weapon every time you fire it... No excuses with a Glock, they're so simple, 5-10 minutes and you're done

Glock 45, the ultimate 9mm Glock.
Compact G19 slide with a full size G17 frame, and no fucking finger grooves..



Added a Vicker's slide stop and mag catch and I'm good to go..



I had G19X, but sold it when the G45 came out.
Couldn't use all my old G17 mags with the G19X.
Besides that, I hated the baby poop brown color.
I thought it would grow on me and it did not...

 

Brother, I bought 2 guns over a month ago and haven't had time to get to the range with them.

If your Glock is a 9mm single stack, it is more likely either a G43, G43X, or G48.




I had a G43X and sold it when I bought my Sig P365XL.
First Sig I bought in almost 18 years..
Bought it thanks to the fuckers on this forum that raved about it...



Bought the S&W 442 with it..
Have to get the range with them..

 

Gen 5s are the cat's pajamas..
I fought it being a Gen 2 purist, having sold a few Gen 3 and 4s.
But I love that gen 5 G45...
No finger grooves and multiple backstraps are where it is at.
Glock FINALLY learned that after several years......

Finger grooves didn't bother me so much on the full size, but the compacts, G19, they suck.
I sold a Gen 3, I can't remember the plating.
Even had the trigger undercut, but it still didn't fit in my hand..

I probably should have kept that Sig P239SAS that I modded the shit out of..
I carried it for 2 years..

 

I run my G45 with the 4mm beavertail backstrap and also installed a Glock extended slide stop; I agree this is a sweet setup especially w/the match grade barrel from the factory!!!!

The 4mm backstrap makes the handle area about the same size as my G20; but that's a large heavy weapon, and I really don't carry it except for dangerous game circumstances. BTW, speaking of dangerous game ammunition; if you haven't done so, run a few rounds of Buffalo Bore Hardcast (Underwood also makes a hardcast round) through a G20/G21. Those rounds hit hard and feel like they are going to hit hard coming out of the weapon!

6 9mm rounds is G43.

I bought my wife G42, its a 380.
She loves it, it is HER gun.
She picked it out, it belongs to her.

Should have waited a few months because the G43 9mm came out.
One less caliber I would have to buy..

Vickers slide stop, finger ext (no added mag cap, and mag catch in it as well..

Every single one of them does that. It's like they go to the range and have to make a statement (to us)!!!!!!! Got to the point when they came to the range, picked up one of my guns, and started a course of fire... first round into the groin area gets an immediate "cease fire"!!!! you're done; bye-bye!!!!

 

Brother, I had an S&W TALO Model 29 for about 6 months.
Sold it after the novelty wore off.
I would piss people off in the indoor range.
My daughter fired 1 round and that was enough for her..

All jokes aside, pelvic girdle is prime real estate when it comes to 'defensive' (or offensive) shooting. Also, if she hasn't, you may want to have her put some rounds through a 43x.

Kinda like the 19x and 45, the 43x has match grade barrel and serrations at the front of the slide. Plus, as I'm sure you know, the .380 is a lot 'poppier' of a round, so in comparison that 43x is butta. Hell, I'd even through an RMR on it for her (I believe Glock sells the 43x w/RMR ready slide as an option), and I bet you she'd love it!!!! Bonus: since you bought her a new pistol and was thoughtful enough to throw on a few accessories, she would be more apt to not even bat an eye at your next purchase...

 

We also now know your 'packin' in more ways than one... Look at where she dumped those low rounds!!!! Respect, Sir!

Actually, I could probably replace her G42 with G43 and she would never know it...
The CTC would fit it, she would have no patience for an RMR.

But as any wife that I know, IT HAS TO BE HER IDEA, NOT MINE..

But seriously I could swap her 42 for a 43 and she would probably never know it.
If I asked her tomorrow what caliber her pistol was, she would have no idea...

But that stated, I have several male coworkers that would answer that question the same way.
They buy guns for self defense, go to the range once (or never) and have no knowledge of the gun they own.

.... and the handle is a bit longer on the 43x to accommodate 10 rounds. So more real estate for her to wrap her hands around and control; although I did see her working a strong Charlie's Angels grip in her pics w/the 42!

 

Buy a case of decent 9X19 training ammo, tough to go wrong with 124gr NATO loading from a variety of manufacturers.

Put a set of serviceable sights on it, and buy 3-4 spare magazines. Then go buy a good strong side hip strait drop belt holster for training, along with a decent gun belt, and a spare magazine carrier.

Then get your ass into a training class, preferably a beginner class and start learning to run the gun. Don’t do any other modifications or spend any more money on gadgets and other stuff until you have 2 cases of 1000 rounds through the pistol. Preferably expended in meaningful training.

Training and building competency is worth 1000% more than extraneous extra bullshit, and will save you money in the long run because you’ll only make modifications that actually make sense after you get a lot of time running the gun.

She has small hands and likes the thinner single stack of the 42.
The 43X grip was a bit thicker, even she could notice it.

I didn't teach her that grip.
She took a handgun class years ago because she didn't want to learn from me..
I don't know if they taught her that or if she just feels comfortable with it.
I don't tell my wife what to do.
She doesn't listen to me anyway.

I just sold a G43X w/ 3 15rd Shield mags last month after purchasing my P365XL..
