I had wanted a 2nd Gen Tundra since they came out. It was my dream car. In 2019, I had the opportunity to get one. A local used car lot had a beautiful 2011 Crewmax SR5 Texas Edition with 114k miles. Leather interior. It was immaculate. They were asking $22k. I drove it off the lot for $16k. I added some nerf bars, and I had the non-JBL stereo replaced with a Kenwood DNX996XR and Maestro RR. It was perfect. I absolutely loved driving it. I babied the shit out of it. I have never enjoyed owning or driving or taking care of a vehicle more than I did that truck. I looked for excuses to drive it.

Today, some piece of shit took all of that away from me. My Tundra was stolen right out of my driveway in the middle of the day. I drove it to a convenience store this afternoon, got a Dr Pepper, and sat in my driveway for a little bit listening to the stereo after I got home. I work from home most days, so I went in to my office and worked for a couple of hours before filling out and submitting my timesheets. I went outside to get something out of my truck, and it was gone. A few odd scratches on the driveway, and that was it.

I live out in the country a little bit (in between two small towns in the Austin metro area. My driveway is 150 yards from the street. My closest neighbor is 250 yards away, and there aren’t many people right here. Neighbors didn’t see anything. I called the police, and they came and took a report. I called my insurance and made a claim. (I have full coverage on it). KBB.com lists it between $16-18k, but I seriously doubt I will get that much back from insurance. I am not in a financial position right now to finance another truck, and I won’t find another Tundra in that good of shape for that price.

It was so much fun while it lasted. But I don’t see myself being able to get into another one, at least not for a long, long time.

I am sure going to miss it.

I had a truck stolen about 15 years ago. It was found later in the day. They drove it to an area to take the stereo out. That was it. Truck was just fine, minus a great stereo system. Hopefully yours will show up.

KBB isn't the right valuation. Try to find your exact truck.. or 2-3 of them, and compare their price together. That's what Insurance should pay.

I'm so sorry to read this. That absolutely is sickening. The boldness that someone would have to possess to steal a Texan's truck right out of their driveway knowing there's a good chance a gun lives there as well is off the charts. I really hope, first of all, that the idiot who stole the truck just took it for a joy ride and it will be found (along with them if there is any justice) unscathed and returned to you. If not, here's hoping the insurance company makes it right and at least reimburses you the full amount the truck is worth.

It is really disgusting how hardworking, honest folks (such as yourself even keeping full coverage on it trying to be responsible) can get taken advantage of by low-life thugs who wouldn't know respect if it bit them in the rear.

Here's hoping your luck turns around and the truck is returned safely to you. It may feel impossible or unlikely, but it happens. A cousin of mine had his F-350 stolen several years ago and it ended up two states away abandoned in a state park, but nevertheless in one piece.

Wow. I'd be pissed. Definitely an incentive to have a driveway cam. Mine is aimed right at my truck and the rest of the driveway to the road.

I hope everything works out in your favor man.

    Sorry to hear that.

We've had vehicles stolen out of my employer's parking lot.
Some found a day or so later, some never found.

    Hope they find yours intact..
    Good luck..

I really hope it turns up relatively unharmed. That just sucks. I got burglarized once. They got a print but wouldn't tell me who it belonged to. They never got the stuff back.

Sorry this happened to you Thumper. I have a '16 Texas Edition Crew Max, so when I see another Texas Edition Tundra, it always catches my attention. I live kind of close to you, in-between Austin and San Antonio. I'll keep my eyes peeled for your pickup. I know it's a long shot, but who knows, anything's possible.

Bummer man, that sucks. FWIW, I got a lot more than KBB for a totaled car. Like nearly double, but I guess it all depends.

Woah dude, don’t give up yet. Yeah, it’s a crappy day when your truck is stolen, (or wrecked, as happened to me in the past), but let’s see how this all plays out before assuming you can’t end up back in a Tundra. Sometimes, just sometimes, it all works out for the better.

That was a beautiful truck, no doubt about it. Here’s to hoping the thieving scum is caught, AND it’s recovered in pristine condition.

Post a thread "Stolen Tundra - Texas" or similar. Ask all of us Texans (a ton of us) to keep our eyes open. Post on social media if you are on FB or other like-sites. Perhaps one of us will spot it and can help get it recovered. I'm in the DFW area, tons are in San Antonio, Houston, Austin, and other Texas cities/towns.

My experience of having a truck stolen was when I lived in Houston. It was recovered south of Corpus after they blew the engine. DPS said they were definitely running for the border with it.

Recovered!!! Got it back yesterday! Perfect condition, no damage.

Back in January, I had a title loan, and there was a miscommunication on my payments. They ordered a repo on it. We got it straightened out, and the repo was cancelled. A piece of shit, shady-ass tow company didn’t update their records (so they claim), came to my house, and dragged my truck off illegally. 6 months after the order was cancelled. They didn’t report it to the police at all, though they claimed they did. Sheriff departments from two counties and one police dept said they never reported it. Two different detectives called the tow company to let them know they were in deep shit. I met a deputy at the storage lot, thoroughly inspected the vehicle, and drove it off. Tow company is in deep shit. They never reported it to the police or the loan company, but first thing Monday morning, they turned in a invoice to be paid without a repo report. Loan company called me after the manager got into it with the tow company manager, who hung up on the loan company manager. I got the detective that was handling my case involved at that point, and he had a deputy meet me at the lot. I was not civil with the tow company staff. The deputy just stood there smiling.

But I have my truck back.

    Damn awesome news!!!

You might find it in your best interest to consult a lawyer. This kind of thing happens way too often and that is one big screw up. Technically they stole your truck.

Might wanna look into a driveway announcer. You can get them for pretty cheap now days. A front gate never hurts either with remote control actuators from Ghost Controls.

Great news! When you said you had marks on your dive I immediately thought tow truck. I never thought some idiot company thought they had a repo. I was thinking stolen or shady tow.

I knew someone that had it the other way around. He reported his car stolen when it had really been towed for a parking violation. Once that part was figured out, towing / storage paid, he got his car back. He notified the police, but somehow the file wasn’t updated properly.

Next evening he was taken down at gunpoint for driving his own car.:eek2:
