how many of you guys have tinted the moon roof on your 22 tundra? I'm considering doing a 50% ceramic tint, but wondering if I should go darker/lighter.

Depends on where you're from. Here in Deep South sub tropical Texas, 5% ceramic is the way to go on everything you can.

Then get the 5%. That sun hitting you straight from the top will heat the inside up even if you never forget to put the interior cover back in the closed position.

The tint installer convinced me to go with 35% (I think); I wish I had gone darker. I would probably lean more towards 5 next time.

I went ceramic all around- 80 windshield, 20 fronts, 80 on the back doors, 35 pano, 35 back glass. Huge improvement in the heat department

35% here on the pano, great on sunny days for the open and airy feel and not too dark.

did you go 80 on rears to match 20 on fronts? I’m scheduled in a week or so and want 15 or 20 up front and to match rears to it… Can’t figure out what the factory % is…

I’ll let ya know a secret. If you get anything tinted regardless of the percentage will block the same amount of head and UVA A/B rays. This is for a semi metallic biased film.

When you step up to a full ceramic sale rule applies, however ceramic will block out more heat.

    * when a vehicle is still and has zero circulation regardless of semi metallic or ceramic it’s still green housing. Meaning it’s going to be hot.

    * best things to fully tint; sunroof , windshield.

Stay away from a $99.00 specials. Always ask what brand and if it’s semi metallic or other. When I sold tint Llumar was/is still my go to. However maddico is getting better and what’s on my rig.

20 year film installer here ….the main concern I tell my customers is with 5% kind of feels like you lose the roof visibility …the ceramic film causes the glass to absorb a lot of that heat as well …too much absorption could lead to failure/cracked glass
We do roofs down to a 18%
We also exclusively use ceramic film
As far as metallic films we stay away from those bc they usually interfere with signal in newer cars/trucks
Typically cost for ceramic installs can depend on difficulty of car but crew cab pickups run in the 400’s

Paid $160 for ceramic in NJ. 2x fronts and sunroof.
35% on the fronts, and 20% on sunroof....wish I went a bit darker on the sunroof itself, but understand the risks on seal/etc separations due to heat retention (due to tint).
Slim chance of failure, I was told, but never the less the installer gave me the official warning b4 proceeding.

You get what you pay for in tinting…most Toyotas we remove door panels and often remove glass …tint entire window …sun cure them …then file the edges…looks like they are OEM big time
And as far as cleanliness and consistency tough to beat
We are also a shop with a combined 37 years experience
    We do it different

The new body with the pano roof would be laminated …where as previous gens would be tempered glass (crazy durable)
The lam dual glass setups is what some shops had problems with
I have only seen one sunroof blowup
It was a newer body F150 with 5% on the dual roofs

I used 80 3m on my windshield a bit cheaper ceramic everywhere else. When the guy finished the windshield he said I have enough left over for your sunroof at no charge!

Dang, I'm shocked at the prices I see on here. I paid $650 for everything tinted and that was $100 off because I've had several cars done at the same place. Even before the Covid craziness and whatnot, I couldn't get my windows done for $180 by a homeless guy in the Walmart parking. I think my last truck was 450-500 before Covid.

Quoted $309 here in central OH for Lumar ceramic fronts (15%), rears (50%), and back glass (50%)… $109 more for full windshield with 70% ceramic…

….A retail-ish quote for a full truck with the WS would 550-600$ plus little more if a person wanted roof as well (Southeast NC)
The sides and rear are one thing but in these new 60-80 thousand dollar trucks doing a WS for any less than 180-200 is crazy if you ask me
Hell when you pull a 60in x40in piece of ceramic your prob looking at 75$ of film cost
‘Some’ mobile guys are my problem…they talk cheap and tint poorly and make the industry look bad
Been in the same location for 16 years tinting
I have to do it right…I’m too easy to find otherwise

    ^^^^

A real tinter will remove door panels and felts to truly tint glass. They will also tint to the edge of the glass and have very little if any gap, round the edges etc. sounds like you have some experience haha

This man knows what he’s talking about. Also who gets tint done in a mobile unit. I’d hate to see the trash that ends up caught in the film.

You get what you pay for, true ceramic tint is expensive a roll thus the cost is roughly double compared to semi metallic.

On front windshields, do you do them in the truck or prefer before a replacement?

It is so nice to do them out but obviously not always the case
We use a soak rope in the firewall to try to prevent water where it shldnt be and oversized microfiber towels to protect dash/cluster areas
We have not done a 3rd gen windsheiod yet just visor strips (not a huge fan)

A lot of shops don’t sink those edges very deep and it leads to that problem…I would return as soon as possible and ask for a repair
