I know this is a Tundra board but I am hoping someone can help me with my sequoia issue since they’re similar. The sequoia boards aren’t nearly as active

I bought an 08 SR5 sequoia that I can’t get into 4wd. The dealer checked it all over and 4wd worked fine, but now I can’t get it to work. When dialing into 4hi I just got clicking and whirring, so I thought to replace the actuator motors since research points to that being the culprit. I replaced the motors with verified good ones after getting a cheap used one, and I have the same issue.

I discovered a hole in the side of the top actuator motor that I couldn’t see with the shield on, so I was able to actually take the below video. It looks like the gear is turning, but the rod isn’t moving with it, and the clicking are the teeth jumping on the gear.

I know it’s a long shot but can someone point me in some kind of direction? I am confused about which motor does what, and I think I got the clocking right before installation. I’m just a loss here and don’t want to call the stealership or mechanic.

    Thanks!!

Those gears are slipping. Why? That's the question.

Are you doing this on the fly? I select 4WD when moving and lift the throttle enough that the vehicle is coasting but not so much that the engine is braking. Kind of in limbo so there's no stresses on the driveline.

When I first had the issue yes it was moving about 10mph. I tried a million scenarios; going into neutral, turning the wheel, backing up and going forward.

this is with the truck parked and off, just with the key on. Exact same sound and symptom though.

I thought because I’m parked and with the truck not running in the video, but I have the exact same sound and issue when it’s moving, in neutral, etc. So my guess is the rod isn’t moving in those scenarios either.

I should also add that I had put the truck into neutral and manually pushed each rod into 2wd position before reassembly. The top moves, just not with the gear
