Took my 05 Tundra in for Diagnostics at a Toyota dealership ( went in Limp mode, another thread)
Anyway, they came up with $11k worth of recommended repairs, quote "truck needs lots of repair" (not including the issue that caused the Limp mode)
    But $11k ??
My theory: 1) They have to document every possible issue due to legal responsibility
    and/or
    2) They are hoping I will buy a new Toyota ???

Steering issue, brakes, gas tank straps, new muffler and exhaust ( muffler and exhaust is new) not including Cats.
What garage would give that high of an estimate and expect me to say "Yeah sure, go ahead, do repairs that are worth more than the truck is.
My truck runs well, burns zero oil, very nice looking, new tires, rims, lifted, well taken care of, but it DOES have 220k miles.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks in advance

In mind there's only two options for gas tank straps..... they hold the tank in which case no need to fix or they don't hold the tank and is a fairly obvious need lol

Can you provide an itemized list? $11k seems ridiculous for what you specified. You can literally buy another 1st gen for that.

Find another shop....220K on an '05 is nothing. Gas tank straps might be rusted, so I could see that being an issue, possibly...
I'd ask them to show you on the truck what is wrong. What caused the limp mode?

If it went into limp mode, they should be able to pull a code and tell you what needs to be replaced.

Seems like they’re just throwing the repair menu at you hoping you’ll trade it on a new one. I would find another shop and get a second opinion for sure.

Is there more to it than just the stuff you listed? I'd get a very specific list from them.

How much rust does your truck have?

Limp mode is probably secondary air injection just need to install a bypass kit and get rid of it or you'll be paying for it non stop.

Very little information to come to an intelligent and informed conclusion. No idea where the truck has been all it's life so no idea how much corrosion there might be. There are a lot of trucks that look real nice until one looks underneath.

Take it to another garage and do some research. Look up that garage on the BBB website or look at google reviews.

Here's a list of items: Steering rack and assembly, rack mount and bushings, lower steering shaft off of rack and tie rod ends, Front sway bar links,
both front calipers and S lines, brakes and rotors on front, complete exhaust after manifolds and all hardware, both front axles. $11,565!!! Not including the secondary air injection!!

I have done car repairs, Taught small engines, been somewhat of a gearhead all my life with motorcycles, etc. But I am wondering if I have SUCKER written all over my face, what are they used to dealing with, Dang!!!

The straps look fine, but I hear its an issue with the 1st gen Tundras. Yes, straps are good but they quoted $700. Pretty sure I can do it for about $100 at most

Yeah, there are probably items in there that need fixed. It sounds like they are trying to take you for a ride even if all those things were jacked.

It's to bypass the secondary air injection system entirely. I have no firsthand experience with it myself but I know a lot of guys run the Hewitt kits and they seem to be the best. Take a look around on here and Google some stuff and see if it's right for you. Will save you quite a few bucks. As long as you don't live somewhere that does hardcore emissions testing.

This reminds me years ago when I took a 7 year Honda to the dealership for the state inspection. They failed the inspection and stuck a rejection sticker on and said it needed $5K in repairs. I guess they thought that the rejection sticker would force me to do the repairs. I said I would get a second opinion. Took it to an independent shop and gave them the rejection paperwork and asked them to verify it. They came back and said it was all 100% BS and didn’t need any of those repairs. They removed the rejection sticker and put a valid passed sticker on. Yes, they were a certified inspection station. The dealer was just trying to rip me off.

Rarely trust any dealerships service dept. Their job is to bring work into the deslership. Work that is not always warranted.

That is BS, the only reason I go near a dealer is if I'm in warranty.

In 2002, my 2000 Tundra's 3 year battery died. As it was under warranty I took it to Culver City Toyota. They replaced the battery for free and did the camshaft seals under either warranty or recall I don't remember which, it was a V6 They also did a bunch of warranty work I can't remember. But it was a sub 3 year old truck and Toyota was paying.

I purchased a hewitt bypass kit, will let you know how it goes. Hopefully that's the problem (the secondary air injection system) with the limp mode. Don't want to throw good money out the window, but everyone I talk to says that's the problem and if nothing else, I eliminate it for the future because Im gonna have this beautiful truck for a while

With your stated knowledge and skills I think everything on this list you can do yourself. The steering rack bushings and tie rod ends and subsequent alignment may be better off at an independent shop you trust just for the lift to work on it.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.
