    I hope toyota reads this, because the 3.0 turbocharged diesel from Italy used in the ram would be a outstanding engine. We don,t need another Cummins powered diesel with 500 ft. lbs. of toque. I am ready to buy a tundra with the 3.0 liter turbocharged diesel. Wake up toyota your the last to not have a diesel!

    I agree that Toyota should make a "Tundra" with a diesel option. However if they do make a Tundra with the diesel option I think it should be a 'HD' version. Perhaps it could be a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. However the 3.0 Diesel that Ram uses, would not be near my first choice of motor for it. It is strange, Toyota actually has many diesel options available on its foreign vehicles but the opt to not use them in the US/Canada. I am guessing this has something to do with emissions regulations and the hoops you have to jump through. I am betting the Tundras would get much better fuel mileage with an appropriately-sized diesel motor.

    So it has been confirmed that Chevrolet will be making a Diesel Silverado 1500 for 2019. Ford, of course, is doing the same thing in 2018. I am betting Toyota will not do it, unfortunately. If they do I will be greatly surprised!

    It is extremely difficult to produce a diesel automobile in the U.S., even more so for really light vehicles. The rules and regulations are constantly changing in the U.S. Gas engines are much simpler and weigh a lot less anyway. The initial cost is also a lot lower - you can buy a lot of gas for the $10,000 it takes to get a diesel option. Unless I needed to consistently tow over 12,000 lbs I would have no desire to deal with a diesel truck.

    This is a perfect example of how the EPA is making it extremely difficult to produce diesel trucks. Even if emissions systems are disabled during certain malfunctions or for a few short minutes the EPA considers it a major violation. The people who roll coal on other motorists aren't exactly helping out either.

    For the record, I like diesel. The EPA would make me very very nervous to make one though if I were in charge of Toyota. Toyota banks on it's reliability as well as their image. Rolling the dice on an extremely complicated Diesel engine that satisfies the EPA's absurd requirements seems very un-toyota.

    Toyota Hilux is a well known 3.0 Diesel truck in the whole world except United States. It's one of the toughest truck that is actually built to last (not Ford). I don't know why Toyota is hesitant to bring Diesel here. From Tacoma to Tundra, 3/4 or 1 Ton Diesel can basically introduce the full line of Toyota Trucks here in US and it will easily eat cut into Domestic line of trucks.

    If I were the guy in charge at Toyota, I'd only want to bring a diesel to market if it was it was a 3/4 or 1 ton. You're only going to capture so much of the market with a diesel 1/2 ton, but with an HD diesel the sky's the limit.

    Also, idk why everyone keeps asking this question. If you've ever had to deal with the DEF codes and problems that come along with Tier 4 diesels, you'd know that diesel vehicles can be a royal pain in the ass when things go wrong.

    No kidding. Look at how many issues the big 3 have with their diesels, and it almost always ties back to the emissions crap that they are required to have.

    The niche for a half ton diesel is way to small from a wise investment standpoint for an automaker.

    Before I bought my tundra last fall I considered the ram ecodiesel. I read "all over the internet"' of problems and potential problems with it. But also have a friend of a friend that owns one and tows 7500-8000# regularly. Zero issues from my understanding. He loves his. 28+mpg unloaded, 22-25mpg loaded. That's very appealing if you own a small contracting company (or something) and are always pulling around a trailer in town and can maintain 20+ mpgs when fully loaded up.

    I am not nor will I be in that demographic. I very infrequently pull 5500# short distances (boat). The mpg sting isn't significant for me. And the tundra has plenty of ass to pull that. The issues I read with the ram ED steered me away too.

    It would only make sense for an automaker to get into the ¾ ton 1 ton diesel market. Tough nut to crack though. Especially when your first iteration of a full size truck was only considered ⅞ of full-size (until 2nd gen was released). And knowing Toyota- the motor would have to be perfect which may be impossible considering emissions laws.

    But to wait on Toyota to build one and put it in mass production....not gonna happen anytime soon! LOL

    Slap an isuzu diesel enginel..isuzu engines are one of the best in the world.. And is Japanese..if it used by Dodge it is not worth it..
