I've been contacting dealers across the country for the last week, but for the last few days the responses I'm getting from the majority is that they are no longer selling outside of their local markets. And I'm not just talking about the elusive Pro model... I've tried Limiteds and even SR5s, and getting the same response. One dealer told me that they have chosen to not sell our of their state, but that even if they wanted to, Toyota has limited sales to 125 mile radius of each dealership.

I've seen multiple people hear mention driving and flying cross country to pick up their new trucks. Wonder why the sudden change? Or maybe I'm being misinformed. Just seems like too many denied purchases to be a coincidence.

Probably because Toyota wants people to get their hands on their trucks rather than just rich people who can afford to buy it anywhere and truck it back home.

Definitely not rich... Would fly on points, and finance the vehicle... But sure, I guess that makes sense...

Took me a long time to find a dealer that would sell to A) out of state in general B) Out of state without markup. Dealers in AK have no stock and it was even hard to find a dealer in WA that would sell to us.

Thanks for the info. I have found a couple so far that are willing, they just don't have what I'm looking for. But the overwhelming response has been for me to kick rocks.

I have a deposit on a truck equipped exactly how I want it, other than the fact that its DC and not CM. Having just sold our DC, and knowing that the new ones are even smaller in the back seat area, I'm having serious doubts that it will work for us. I've found a few in the wild, all of which have been spoken for or not for sale to outsiders haha.

Had same problem in mid-late Dec when I was trying to buy a '21 Crewmax. I live in NM and called every dealer in the state but there was no stock available. I was in Denver for work, and there was stock available, but no dealer would sell a truck to me because I was from out of state. Even though I was standing in their lobby ready to buy right then. I was told it was because an out of state sale was not going to utilize the service department at that dealership, and they would ultimately loose money because service is where they make their revenue.

Don't give up. I finally found an Outstanding deal in Indiana that even with the travel I made out like a bandit.

Right on man. Luckily I've got miles built up on my card, so the travel will be covered and I too will make out... Once I find the one!

Edit to say: I really wish Toyotas Inventory Search was like GM/Chevy's, where you can search 500+ miles outside of your zip. Maybe they do, but if so, I cant find it.

    Sounds like things have changed.

I was searching for a new car for the wife back in Sept/Oct.

Ended up purchasing out of state due to no stock in my state.

Maverick'd docs with a notary and my wife picked up here new car 2wks later.

Was just at the dealer today for basic service. No 22' Tundra's on the lot. All sold before they're off the truck with $5k over MSRP.

    Best of luck OP.

Btw There we're multiple 1st edition Bronco's at the dealer.

Only $100k.:monocle: What will next year look like?

Luckily I do have a handful of dealers within a 2 hour drive of home that don't charge a penny over MSRP, and don't tack on $3000+ "paint and tint accessories"... One of which I have my current deposit at... The majority of them aren't high volume dealers though, so their allocations have been very weak as of late...

Best case scenario, the family decides they can live with another DC, or I buy it and keep a deposit down for the CM and don't lose my ass on a trade in 6 months (if the used market is still booming)...

Edit to say: If anyone has a lead on a Limited Crewmax in Lunar Rock with TRD OR, JBL, Limited Premium, Limited Power and Pano Sunroof, let me know! :D

Same boat. Called a dealer in Washington State (I'm on east coast) to buy sight unseen a 2005 E46 M3. They said they wouldn't sell it to me. In state purchases only.

Caught me by suprise cause I bought my truck doing the same thing back in late 2020. I figured it was just this Dealer being a shady, lazy bum until I saw this post.

They’re lying. Loads of people are driving hundreds of miles away to buy these trucks.

I bought my 21 SR at the right time. October of 20 they didn’t care where you came from as long as you could get financing! I had 4 dealerships in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia working deals with me from North Carolina.

It's really up to the dealer. Half of a dealer's revenue comes from service. Local sales equal service, out of state doesn't. As inventories increase, I'm sure it will go back to normal.

I know the dealership I purchased from has an unofficial policy to only sell local. They say the demand is high enough they can't come near meeting local needs so won't even consider the needs of those further away. I can appreciate that logic, looking out for the local community first.

Well I hate to admit but I’ll be paying over msrp.

Back in April I found 2 dealers in my state of Ohio that was selling at msrp and I found out yesterday that they are now selling at 5 grand over msrp. I guess I picked the wrong time to buy but my current 2017 has high miles and I gotta get a new one before it loses to much value.

I have a buyer for my 2017 who is paying more than what the dealers offered. It makes sense on that end to sell now. I called all over my state and since I have ties to Georgia I’ve called down there as well.

this will be my 4th Tundra with my local dealer and at this dealership the mark up for a Limited and up is 7 grand instead of the 5 grand for SR5 I managed to negotiate the limited that is in allocation for a $4,500 over msrp.

it’s what I’ve been looking for a Lunar Rock TRD CM 6.5 bed

Just sucks that 5 years ago I got my 2017 for 37 grand.

Where are you in Ohio? Im in the greater Columbus area, and know that Voss Toyota in Dayton isnt charging over MSRP for any trim, and Byers in Delaware isnt charging over MSRP for anything other than Pro and Capstone... I beleive Kings down in Mason also told me nothing over sticker except Pro too...

I have a deposit for a Lunar Rock Limited locally, but its a DC and I really want a CM...

    Jmay,

Did you call recently like last couple of days? Boardman Toyota was my no mark up guy which he told me Toyota across the board has everything marked up at 5 grand or more.

I’m in the Akron area. Jeff Wyler near Dayton has a mark up and Byers said the same? Hmmm maybe it’s because of the double cab? My 2017 is a double cab but it’s much larger than the 2022 double cab

Hopefully people won’t be so short sighted when all of this washes out. Remember the ones who tried and did take advantage of you. What goes around, comes around… There’s a fine line between profit and gouging….
Starting upside down on a new vehicle is not a position you want too be in….

I talked to a guy at Voss earlier in the week, and then again yesterday, and he told me that they are not selling for a penny over MSRP... I have my deposit on the DC with Byers in Delaware, and my sales guy says they are only marking up the Pros and Capstones, and that was as of our convo Friday... Also my paperwork states the MSRP price for my deal, so I hope if they did change that theyll still honor my deal...

Yes, I just sold off my 14 DC and have heard the new are even smaller which is what has me worried... My kid is growing, not shrinking haha...

I just have it stuck in my head that if I'm paying these new, much higher prices, I want what I want... So I'm still on the search until I get the call that the truck has landed...

My ideal build is Limited CM in Lunar Rock, with TRD Off Road, JBL, Premium and Power packages, and Pano Sunroof... My DC has all of these except the regular sunroof... Also would take an equally equipped CM in Army Green... Byers got one of those two days after I put my deposit on the DC, but it was already spoken for when I saw it and called... Hoping that maybe the buyer decides against it, and my sales guy said he will call me immediately if so...

Ya same boat my kids are 11 & 7 now and growing. Brunswick Toyota are selling all Tundras before they hit the lot. I attached what’s coming. Everything I want but need to get side steps and spray on liner. I’ve heard of peeling on the factory liners which is probably why this one doesn’t have it.

You are getting exactly what I want, damn you... haha...

Even if I cannot find another before the DC arrives, I'm fairly confident that if I can find one within 6 -/+ months of purchase, I will be able to sell the DC off or trade and not lose my ass, if anything at all (assuming the used market stays red hot and Carmax is still grossly over paying)...

    Lol!
I’ve been looking for a new Tundra since last summer. But I still owed money on my 2017 and now that it’s paid off I am committed. Lunar Rock color clicks with me my last 3 Tundras were either black or silver

My 14 was black too, and the wife's Corolla is black... I'm sick of black cars... Lunar Rock really stood out, especially after seeing R4T's build and the Westcott videos with them... But like I said, I would settle for Army Green, as I've seen a few dudes on youtube that have outfitted them as well and they look pretty damn good...

I’ve seen a lot of army green 2022’s on line. Up here in the Cleveland area for all of the sales for these trucks I’ve only seen one army green and two silver ones in the last 3 months. Maybe your double cab will be roomier than we think. Did you test drive a double cab.

Haven't been able to even sit in a 22, let alone drive one... The local dealers that had any on the lot were sold or owned by employees already...

You definitely need to drive one. They drive a lot different than our models. I drove an SR5 back in March when it was still freezing out and unlike my 2017 the gas pedal was not as touchy. Hard to explain. Maybe it still needed to warm up? We drove straight off the dealer front yard. But once I got it on I71 the turbo kicked in and it was awesome. Faster than my 5.7
