I noticed my 21 platinum with 8000 highway km's had a leaking right inner CV boot. The dealership tech was calling it a 'cut' but the service manager said it was covered under warranty, great. Waited 2 weeks for a CV boot kit and then another week for an appointment. I called the service center and told them I'm pretty picky about my truck and sure hope they did a great job. Dropped it off early this morning at around 4 am and dropped the fob in the key box.

I got the call it was done, all good, no issues, come get it. I saw it in the parking lot and climbed under it before going in. Immediately saw a hunk of metal off beside the CV joint. It was never mentioned by Toyota on the first check and nothing when they fixed it. I know for a fact that damage wasn't there before and I hadn't driven the truck since they first inspected it, just 12 km down the paved road home, didn't hit anything......

I was pretty bothered by this, the tech told me to my face that they don't pry or hammer there and it's closer to the CV joint where they hammer it out........

I've sent pictures taken before I drove it away and emailed the dealership. I guess the service manager wasn't there.

The tech said it would have no functionality problems, the seal is protected it'll be fine for 20 years......

I just wanted my truck fixed well.

Don't need to make me anymore choked, hopefully, it's not a big deal. I am worried about their response or even what a fix might entail. I sure don't want them touching my truck anymore.

I also checked the front diff when I got home and had to put 2 pumps in to get it to drip. I noticed on the shop form he said he topped off my front diff fluid. I wonder, 2 full pumps to get it to leak out, anyways.

Yellow stain is RPG-324 rust-proofing stuff.

    Thanks for letting me vent.

Ranch Hand Summit front and rear bumpers. Diamondback SE tonneau cover. Rigid DOT fogs. LED headlight/fog replacement bulbs. Matt Gecko hood, and bed LED's. Foot well led's, and interior LED buld replacement. (warm) Broke the front shock of the 3" spacer lift, so replaced with 6112/5160 and 1' block rear. KO 2's. Speaker replacement, added amp and (2) 10's under seat. Weathertech floor mats. Salex organizers. Ziebart undercoating. RCI front, transmission/diff, and gas tank skids received, waiting for spring install. Compustar remote starter. front/rear dash cam.
That sucks. Hope they get it fixed to your satisfaction.

It does look like damage from trying to “pry” the cv shaft out! Oh my word!!

My ‘20 had a noisy front diff bearing. Sure the monkeys at the dealer would have put a new diff in for free. I opted to put a bushing in on my own time/dime. Nobody, especially not the dealer, touches my truck. That’s obviously from the aforementioned monkey putting his pry bar where it didn’t belong. Raise hell.

Thanks, I don't want to mention the dealership name yet. Maybe the service manager will call me tomorrow and have a plan to make it right. I guess I feel bad for the guy that he can't tell the people where he works he made a mistake and it happens. If they'd just said that to me and told me they'll fix it, how could I be mad. Now I'm mad, hate people lying and making me feel that I'm now the one trying to prove that it wasn't me.... Dealerships...........

I guess they are used to 99% of the people that go to them never even look under their vehicles.

That IS NOT fine, usually general manager email is listed, if they refuse to fix it, email the manager, if dealership is just being an ass, ask other Toyota dealerships to assist, nothing irks more service manager than having their f up being fixed by another local dealer, cause folks talk.

Mine has a lot of gouging from the dumbass that did my cv axle. I went in to have my trd pro shocks installed and they damaged my cv axle in the process and then 3 attemps to reinstall a new axle because the seal kept leaking. This was not at the dealership. I made them buy me a new Toyota cv axle and pay the dealership to install it. I should have just installeld the coilovers myself, but was in a rush and took it to a shop that apparently doesn't know what a slide hammer is, but that's after they wrecked my axle in the process of installing the coilovers. Lots of problems with what they did...that was over 3 years ago and all is well now, but I will never go back to that shop for anything.

Thanks, great advice. I'll give them tomorrow to get back to me and then call Toyota Canada later in the week if there's nothing but silence. Hopefully, I post on here how decent the dealership was and just one tech with a moral compass that's not functioning. Stared right into my eyes and lied like a champ.

I've started a folder of all the emails, photos, and dealer invoice sheet, hopefully not needed. Tired just thinking about it. Just wanted my truck fixed proficiently.

So got called into the dealership yesterday for 2 service managers to look at it personally, 3 weeks after originally finding it. I was dreading this, I do my best to avoid car dealerships and service managers. I quietly waited in their fancy waiting area while they put it on a lift. 20 minutes later the pleasant service associate handed me my fob and said the parts are on order from Vancouver so about a week and apologized for all the hassle. She said there were a lot of seals to be ordered? I think as soon as they looked at their damage it's obvious it was done during the boot replacement, how they address the lying tech that's their problem. I guess I might have faith in the human race sometimes.

So I guess while drawn out so far it's good. I am a bit worried about them touching my truck again, I asked that the original lying tech not be involved with my truck again. I asked that one of the 'good' techs do the repair work as I'm pretty particular about my truck. I know they have probably 3 good techs in that giant dealership that are very good, have to.

Maybe an update in a couple of weeks after they fix their damage.

I do this as well. As most know, there's usually one or two 'good' techs and then a bunch of greasemonkeys that essentially just follow replacement procedures, do oil changes, etc.

When I owned my '13 F150, I brought my truck there for a ridiculous squealing issue. (Had to do with valve body cavitation...it was a known issue and the fix was to install a redesigned valve body separator plate.) Their tech brought it out to me and told me "Good to go, nothing wrong" - WITH the freaking truck making the @#$#$ noise as he told me this.

So I came back an hour later, asked to see the service manager, and told him "Here's 45 pages or so of issues from users on a form with the same issue; here's the part #'s for the replacement parts; here's the TSB #; here's audio and video of the issue; and if you still can't fix it, at least tell me the cost so *I* can fix it myself.

They fell all over themselves apologizing and told me "Our bad...we put our basic techs on this and they probably didn't know what to look for." LOL

Most of the time when I bring my truck to a dealership, it's not a straightforward thing (otherwise, either I'll fix it myself or the dealer will have caught it). When that is the case, I'll specifically ask for them to put one of their decent techs on the case, even if it means I have to wait an extra week to get things resolved.
