So, I have a long story, wondering what you all think … I have a 2020 TRD pro previous truck was a 2010 limited . I loved the new pro and with no issues with my 10’ I did not even think twice about upgrading….. This past August I had a rock on my gravel drive puncture one of my tires. With 18k I didn’t want to replace them all yet. I purchased the same factory tire and had taken the brand new spare to put on the rear. Thinking 2 brand new tires on the back 2 tires with 18k on the front.. all good …no issues ….. I go in for my 20k service and they rotate the tires. I headed out for a long hockey trip that weekend and noticed the ride was awful . Bouncing shaking ect. I put about 300 miles on that weekend so by the time I get home my truck is shifting funny hunting for gears “terrible ride” bring it to the dealer I explained the tire problem and shifting and hunting issue. They find a tire was way out of balance and reset the ECM . Thinking it learned the shift points with the tire issue . Now I’m driving waiting for the ECM to learn my driving style again and notice the hard shifting . The uncomfortable hard shifting that was a characteristic of the 2010 in certain circumstances where it was down shifting while you were back on the gas . The clunk and off you went. Well now at 23k miles it’s not going away . Hard shifting up down , city driving sucks. I bring it back in . Nothing Don’t see an issue . Reset ECM again . Was told the tacomas have the same issue it was an ECM issue. So now I’m in January in upstate NewYork . Temps drop truck starts to smooth out . Colder it is the smoother it drove. 0*-10* it drives like a dream . Anything over 30* it’s hard shifting and snappy not smooth at all. So I go back for my 25k service let them know it’s still not right and complain the steering wheel finish is starting to peel…. And I’d like them to check the transmission fluid level which will happen when the new steering wheel comes in and the transmission can be at the proper temp. Truck drove like garbage all weekend with warmer temps . Then this morning it’s-1* on my way to work …. Smooth as silk . I’ve seen the threads on the transmission cooler and fluid levels but man I’m really disappointed I can’t get this resolved. Almost like I’m making up a story. Kinda wish I kept my 2010 .

I can definitely relate as I upgraded to a 2014 and now have the same issue as you (hard shifting clunky gear hunting) and oddly enough I had a 2010 before this too! Toyota replaced the driveshaft under warranty but didn't completely resolve it. I think it's a T case or rear differential issue. Have you had any luck resolving?

Unfortunately no , I have a shop that likes to talk about things . They basically refuse to do anything and they tell me the famous phrase
“ it’s characteristic of that vehicle”

So it happened after you had a different tire on the truck? I wonder if the truck did learn different shift points with the unbalanced/offbrand tire and now that your all balanced again it hasn't adjusted back. It's definitely possible the guy had bigger tires on my truck and then switched back to stock size and the truck hasn't adjusted back yet. Sounds hard to believe but definitely possible.

Yeah I thought the same thing . Reset the ecm and it still does the same thing . I believe it’s a problem with the ecm programming. The shift points and rpm’s are all over the place . It’s really odd. And very uncomfortable to drive .
