Had to renew my drivers license the other day and the guy behind the counter was a vet. He saw I had the flag on my old license and asked me what branch. I knew instantly he was army because when I told him 11 years 4 months in the Air Force he referenced it as the Chair Force. Yep, be about right. Best years of my life though.

The last conscription was in World War 2. Hell, if you sign up and you don't like it, you likely don't even have to finish out your contract these days. My friends have told me stories of people in their platoons who just up and quit a year or two into a 3 or 4 year contract. They just went to their CO and said "I hate this, I want out" and it was signed off on. The Forces don't generally keep people who don't want to be there.

It sure is. Talent, skill and gear all coming together for success. I've dabbled in long range shooting, mainly under 1000 yards though. 3,800 blows my mind. How do you even see a target at that range?? My best shot is 1250 yards, first round out of cold bore with a .308. I credit the gear though, I was shooting a pretty gucci rig that was graciously loaned to me.

Me neither. Conscript armies have always struck me as a bad idea unless all you need are numbers and cannon fodder.

An engineer I partnered with for a few projects shot iron sites competitively at 1,000 yards. His gun and the ammo were all custom. An old Vietnam vet.
My eyes can’t see both sites and a target. Period.
When younger, yea, but not now!

Hah I totally agree with you.

A while back I had just completed my final check up at the eye doctor. Had performed Lasik and the doc told me I had near perfect vison. Funny part though I was driving my truck in an underground parking garage, as I was leaving. Totally misjudged a column and racked the truck side on it. To this day my siblings crack up with laughter every time someone mentions my perfect vison.

A company I started working for gave me a nice HD GMC truck to drive and within 4 days I backed it into a concrete light pole bollard. Had to do the entire UA and report thing. The shop foreman who handles the fleet laughed when he read my absolutely clear and honest answer to “cause”; inattentive driver, failure to observe surroundings.
He said he always got excuses!

Well trained dogs are amazing. I had a neighbor in AZ that trained dogs for the Tucson PD, an old guy. He had 2 big Dobermans that commanded respect and responded to his hand signals instantly. After I got to know the guy a bit I learned that before he moved to AZ, he had trained dogs for the Barnum and Bailey circus. Before that, he had been drafted as a nazi youth and learned his skills training their military dogs. I learned a few things from Victor.
‘The 2 dog takedown’ is scary

A little update on the lady using our address. She had a USPS Change of Address confirmation sent to us today. I contacted the Post Master and she intercepted it. She said something to the affect of "Now we can get her. I know for a fact she doesn't live there."

To put in a change of address you have to have an old address. So hopefully that’s a real address. Postal inspectors are about to make a bust either way.
