Picked up my Truck and they diagnosed it with a bad fuel pump. I’m surprised that the fix was a bad fuel pump. Apparently there’s a recall on Tundra fuel pumps but originally mine wasn’t on the list. So I was instructed to drive it for three weeks to seal the deal. It’s driving good.. So let’s see!

Yes, my 2020 TRD Pro Tundra with 8,800 miles was having issues starting at times with push/start button. It was happening a couple times a week but I would wait 3-5 minutes and then it would start up fine. Dealership had it for about 28 days with a Toyota field specialist dissecting my truck. He came down with the 90% chance the problem was my fuel pump causing the intermittent starting issues. Fuel pump was tested and failed the spec pressure test for the Tundra and causing the starting issues. Fuel pump not holding fuel pressure, drops to 5psi in two hour period from 45psi. Although I was told that my specific fuel pump Lot # was not currently on the recall list. They replaced it with no charge and I’m monitoring the issue. I’ve never had any issues with my key fob/remote start not starting or the engine staying on when I open the driver door. Engine shuts off when drivers door is open like it should per Toyota safety security protocol. Hopefully this helps. Toyota Customer Care number if dealership won’t help you. 1-800-331-4331 with recalls and common issues.
    Good Luck.

Honestly, I would prefer the truck stay on so I wouldn’t have to restart it when I open the driver door and hop in. I understand the whole security concerns but I believe the truck should stay locked and running/warming up/cooling down until it senses the key fob at the 2-3 feet spec or what ever it is. But obviously if it’s supposed to turn engine off and yours is staying on there’s a problem! A new truck and so many same Tundra issues with the most reliable Truck out there! Keep us posted because shared information helps us all.

    Good Luck

I had ran into the same problem 2 weeks ago. Remote started the truck, let it warm up. Went out after 15 minutes and the truck was still running. Hit the door unlock on the remote and the truck kept running. Finally opened the door and, sure enough, the truck kept running. The only time it shut off was when I took it out of park but then wouldn't start again. Even pressing just the start button wouldn't let me cycle to accessory. Went inside, came back out and it fired right up. Took it to the dealership and they couldn't replicate the issue. Hopefully this isn't going to be a common problem.

yes I have a 2020 tundra 1794 and this happens to me today. I remote started then got in and put the truck in gear and it turned off. I had to wait about 20 min before it would let me start it. I have no clue what the problem is with this

I had this same problem today after replacing some OEM light bulbs with LED's. The truck wouldn't start and I noticed the brake pedal was "firm" and didn't move much when pressed at the same time as I pushed the START button. After reading Eaganite's post, i tried it again, this time pushing harder on the brake pedal and it released the brake pedal and started the truck. Saved me an embarrasing call to the dealership. Thanks Eaganite!

I imagine this is a culprit of the LED bulbs. The first set I purchased off Amazon caused the same issue with my key fob (Autogine). I wasn’t able to lock or unlock the truck if the cargos light were on. If I turned the cargo lights off from the inside, it would work again. I definitely wanted to fix this issue before the Alaskan winter hit.

I decided to purchase another set (Marsauto) and they worked great….no more key fob issues. These are the ones that did work: https://amzn.to/3xTns6H

Anyone find a better way to 'reset' the truck when this happens than disconnecting the battery? Same exact thing on a cold morning. Pulled the battery to reset it and fired right back up, but there was got to be a better way to get it working again than carrying around a 10mm socket everywhere i go on cold mornings.

I have had the very same issue with my 2020. This also is the second time it has happened. I remote start it and open the door, it stays running. When you hit the brake it automatically kills the engine. I have not tried just pushing the start button. But you literally have to wait at LEAST 15 minutes for the system to reboot itself. But I do LOVE my truck regardless of this minor problem. JUST DONT EVER PURCHASE A VEHICLE FROM TOYOTA OF DALLAS!! They will rip you off and you never see it coming.

The last time this happened to me I pushed the start button again until the gauge cluster screen went off, then opened the drivers door and shut it. Then put my foot on the break and pushed the start button, started right up. Didn't have to wait any time.
