Well here I go I bought a used tundra last Sept a 2016 1794 4 x 4 with about 90000 on it now and heard some noises in the motor at about 5000 + RPM so I did it few more times to ck it out I bought it from car Max and the Oil was pretty clean so not knowing what was in it I decided to Change it. I hear all the hoopla and discussions about 0w 20 to the 5w 20 and just think that I always used a little thicker oil to protect the engine, in the 70s and to the 90s using 20 w 50 Castrol and all the others .
Well Now I am using AMSOIL most of the time in My diesel to my Boat and Motorcycles so in the Tundra I went to Amsoil Signature Series oil and using 10w 30 Motor Oil full Synthetic the noise I had in Motor is gone 5000 to 5500 No Problem No Noise and I go up to Big Bear a lot go to our Cabin and had the Amsoil in it up there during the Cold Starting about 18 degrees the coldest up in cold weather no Problem No Noises nothing just a smooth running motor first oil change on the 10w 30 was about 7500 miles and put the same oil back in it, still getting about 14 to 15 MPG a lot of Freeway Driving , Hard Freeway Driving and Hard Driving when I want too just a smooth running and quiet happy Motor, Now know all the nay Sayers says this is wrong and will not work, Well I blame the EPA for all this , Here I got 10,000 Miles on this Oil and it runs and drives perfectly fine....

    A bunch
If 18 degrees is cold then I see no issue with a 10w oil for startup, and it's a big powerful engine so a little thicker on the warm end will only hurt economy. And it's a Toyota engine not a Hyundai/Kia engine where the oil tubes are so small they can get clogged even with the proper oil.

For those of use where -40 is normal then I'd say stick with a 0w oil in the winter, but the 5.7 is robust so all you're hurting is the efficiency of the engine.
