Yes they are.
I use my first gen for driving places. Sometimes I bring others. Sometimes I carry a little or a lot of cargo. Sometimes I tow. Sometimes I drive it just to enjoy what a great truck it is.

 

Fairly same thing here too! I drive it every day. Rain sun snow heat, I drive it. It’s a reliable rig and hasn’t ever left me stranded. I don’t use mine for construction or any form of income (more like my income goes to the truck) and I don’t off road really at all. I tow four wheelers the most, and I take my garbage to the dump with it and I duck hunt out of my truck too. Sometimes I camp. But mostly I drive it and use it to take me places.

I drive my Tundra mostly just to piss off the Prius and Tesla drivers. I like to rev the engine at them while flipping them off. Oh, and I cruise the mall in it to pick up chicks.

Seriously, as stated by others in this thread it's not that I need a truck on a regular basis, but there are times when having one is really convenient. And with the price of vehicles these days, it actually makes sense why so many people have crew cab trucks as a primary means of transportation. Why have a car to carry the family, truck to do the occasional chore, and SUV for camping trips when you can just buy a CC truck and essentially get all 3 in one? Sure, you lose efficiency and maneuverability, but gain so much more in flexibility of use. And with supercharger kits available for the 5.7, or even the new TTV6, the lowly pickup can even be your tuner sports car! Name one other vehicle out there that is more versatile than a crew cab truck.

 

I owned a garage door company for over 30 years which I sold in February. I'd been driving a Tacoma for the last 2 years as I didn't need to haul around tools or parts. The Tacoma went with the company along with 5 Tundras, all DC 8' bed. I couldn't not have a pickup anymore.

 

I use it for this....see below. But, It does it all. After all it's a truck. It's built for use, not looks.
The way I have mine setup is not for everyone, but I can literally live out of this thing full homeless if I had to. Love it!

 

I don't know anyone that bought a Pro thinking it had the capability of a 'modified Jeep', and I'm pretty sure my neighbors drive their Accord for 'simple' locomotion, on improved roadways. Thanks for the heads up tho.

Loved reading through this thread. For me, I own a home, with a wife, with endless ideas. 'nuff said. Ok ok, seriously- It's our family truck, my daily driver, hauls trailers, soon to be camper, our Sunday church hauler , gets us where we need to be with that toyota peace of mind. Just couldn't imagine being in a different truck, truly something only a toyota owner gets, these trucks and their owners are just built differently.

I bought the TRD PRO for the looks, factory dual exhaust and superior ride quality. If TMC didn't offer this trim and color scheme back in 2017, I'd be driving a Ram Power Wagon or AT4 GMC.

Is my first (and last) truck. I wanted a truck for all it brings to the table, and couldn't be happier.

 

I learned that I'm a truck guy the hard way. Had 2 Ram's, then 2 Tundra's within about 20 years. Said enough with the big trucks its time for smaller - what do I need it for????. Bought a Wrangler. Then it came time to get wood pellets for my stove. Was taking my snowblower to my dad's when we got 13 inches one weekend. Nope. Not happening . I think my back still hurts.

So I bought a Gladiator. Fit about 2/3 of what the Ram's and Tundra's fit....

Realized what a dumba$$ I was and bought the 22 Tundra.

So I guess I learned that you probably use your truck for way more than you think. I've also learned that people love to ask you why you drive such a big vehicle and its such a waste..... Until they need you to carry something for them, then its ok........

I will add that if you have not towed over 5,000# in your Tundra, find a reason - it is a wonder of mechanical engineering and you will never ask yourself why that darn first gear is so low, even in 2H.

 

So glad I bought the Tundra when I did. I really wanted a Gladiator, but it didn't come out till 2019, and I didn't want to wait. When the Gladiator came out, I was very tempted, but was too expensive. When the 20's came out, dealers were making great deals on the 19's and I test drove several. Talked a dealer into letting me take a used model for a full day. Came back and made an outrageous offer (basically take my Tundra as Trade and pay only tax & tags) They wanted me to come $7500 out of pocket on the Rubicon or $5000 for an Overland. I THANKFULLY said no deal, got in my Tundra and not 500 feet down the road realized I could never downsize for the Jeep as much as I wanted to. (I had driven Jeep's since 1985). I dont 'need' a fullsize truck for daily life, and the Gladiator would be fine for most duties, but the ride/drive quality, performance, handling, and capability of the Tundra is heads and shoulders over the Gladiator, especially the steering...... And let's not forget reliability. That will matter 10 years from now. Even at 5 years and 70K miles, the Tundra runs, drives, looks and works like NEW.....

2 months later, the salesman called to tell me that they still had the models I drove and would take my deal. He was incredulous that I was turning down a $23K discount off MSRP. I of course blamed my wife, saying 'momma says don't trade my truck' bald faced lie, but when I did ask her she said it was my choice, but confirmed that she would not have been happy if I traded the Tundra.

 

I use my tundra to get speeding tickets.

Lots and lots of speeding tickets. I'm not reckless, I'm kind of impatient though and having 381 hp under my right foot will inevitably put me in financial shambles if I don't get a grip.

Bought the truck and trailer at the same time when we retired a couple years ago. So far this is its main purpose.

Because race car. I’ve said this here before, but initially bought just to tow the race cars and related parts around; was supposed to stay in the warehouse with the trailers. Not two months later it was my daily. Drove like a limo and, more importantly, having a tank to deal with LA traffic and parking is life changing. Dents/dings/nicks/low speed bumps……just colorful parts of a proud truck history instead of stress inducing over-reactions in a sports car or SUV.

Plus it very effectively catches the trash bins that inevitably come tumbling down the street on trash day.
