I’ve done zero mods. But I think it came from the factory with something done. That’s part of the reason I’m joining this forum. Want to learn more about my truck.
Hey everyone. I need a little help. I’ve now broken my second oil filter cap on my 2013 tundra. (Plastic) of course. I read something a min ago about an aluminum cover? Does anyone know where I can find one?

also. Wtf at I doing wrong? Am I tightening too much when I change my oil? Or am I gonna have to invest in a better impact? Cause I’ve been having to use a breaker bar. But these plastic covers apparently suck or my filter wrench is crap. But. I got the best one I could find and it’s been fine except for 2 times. This is just annoying as hell cause of course I’m going out of town tomorrow. New oil. But. Had to leave the old filter. ‍♂️‍♂️

You can get an aluminum one from toyota and just swap your center piece over to it.

There's suppose to be a flat metal tab/ spring that locks the cap from coming off. If your truck still has it all you need to do is tighten it up with very little force. The o-ring doesn't get crushed so it's not like putting extra force on the cap is going to prevent a leak. I use a stubby 3/8 ratchet and one hand. If I put more than a few foot pounds of torque on it I would be surprised. When it comes to the metal filter I just hand tighten them, no tools needed. The o-ring prevents it from vibrating loose.

Yes!! I do have that tab still. And. Thanks for the input. I’m sure I’m gorilla gluing it on for no reason. I guess I just don’t even realize how tight. Much appreciated.

Out of curiosity. If I manage to get a new cover today. Can I drain just the oil filter or would I have to take all the new oil completely back out to swap the filter?

Just drain the filter as normal and check the level once you are done.

I think the housing is the extra .5 in the 8.5 qts.

So the guys at Toyota say that there is an aluminum cover. But. It’s technically not for the tundra. And it’s not SUPPOSED to fit. But he doesn’t know for sure. Do you guys have any idea?

All you need to do is swap the center tube from the old housing to the new housing. The Tundra takes a longer center tube.

Go with aluminum one from Toyota like every one says.

But my question is you said "wrench" are you using they oil filter pliers or the housing socket?
Highly recommend a socket should be 64mm can get em just about any where the important part for the canister style is the cuts around the lip.

I’ve got that tool. I actually got the plastic one off yesterday with the help of a buddy. Installed the metal one from Toyota. Seems to be working fine. Thanks for the help
