    My daughter has a 2018 Nissan Rogue Midnight Edition on a leasee which is expiring. She has a good amount of equity in it and wants to buy it out because she only has a $250 payment and good luck finding something close. So we went to the originating dealer on Friday to set up her financing. The buyout is 16k even. The financing guy explains that they have to certify the car to buy the lease out (bullshit) which will give you 7 year warranty for $2500. The inspection for the “certification” is another $500. Registration fee of $250 ( the car is already registered) and title fee of $150 ( dmv charges $50). On top of that they were also hitting her 5% interest. So basically to buy this lease out they want to charge her $3693 in bogus fees. I understand times are tough and they dont have alot of inventory and theyre not making what theyre used to making but thats just silly. I told the guy to suck it easy and we left. We are now getting the payoff paperwork direct from Nissan and she opened an account in my police departments credit union for her. Shes been pre approved already at 2.5%.

    In the fall of 2020 I worked at a Nissan dealer for 5 months as a car salesman. My first ever sales job. The 2 finance guys were total dbags and this dealer would sell new cars over msrp. I questioned my managers and they didn’t like that. It was the hardest working lowest paid job I have ever had in 20 years. They make money on all the upsells. I didn’t like how every customer even if they were nice people the workers would always have something negative to say about them. I left asap as soon as I found a better job.

    Does she get first dibs on the outright purchase after the lease expires? If so, there would be someone much higher up reviewing that original paperwork with you and your daughter.
    I can understand some paperwork fees since the title would need to be transferred to the lending institution but not much else.
    I once saw a dealer tack on a $269.00 advertising fee. The icing on that cake was they had the most obnoxious TV ads and they expected me to pay for the unpleasant experience of watching them.

    F the dealers. Doing the same thing i did with my Tundra. Get the payoff paperwork emailed to me by the company and take care of it directly through them
