I bought truck from TX , no rust. I live in NJ and afraid it will get rusted. First step in build I would like to rustproof undercarriage. There are million of products, I am having hard time to process. I will appreciate any help to select a right product. If you know any undercoating shops in New Jersey.

Do it yourself either use Fluid Film or Amsoil Heavy Duty Metal Protectant. I spray mine with the Amsoil HDMP every fall.

Top right of the forum you'll see the search bar if on PC or a magnifying glass if on mobile. Type in "Fluid Film" and there's loads of info. For undercoating you don't want anything that is rubberized. It'll trap all the bad stuff and rot your frame.

Highly recommend fluid film in gallon jugs and applied by air compressor/spray gun. I have used cosmoline and that works but it’s nasty stuff and once it’s on, it’s on and sometimes it leaves exposed areas as it doesn’t cling like fluid film.

I like to be able to wash off the undercarriage and fluid film in the spring time and then reapply a fresh coat in the fall which works perfectly with fluid film.

There are superior products over FF. Spend some time researching

FF works great as I previously stated however, when I use all the bulk FF I purchased, I plan to use Blaster Surface Shield. BSS claims to be far longer lasting than FF and there may be additional improved products as well. There are several good YouTube videos that compare these products over the long term in the "Rust Belt"

I think the big thing is going with an oil based product like Fluid Film or BSS as they both use Lanolin oil. I'm sure there are other oils out there too. From my understanding rubberized coatings are only good if it is a brand new truck otherwise they will trap moisture and rot the frame eventually. I'm in the Pittsburgh area and we get a fair amount of snow resulting in large exposure to salt and I've been having mine sprayed with FF since new and there no rust on the frame and surrounding parts.

I’ve used woolwax, very similar to fluid film.

So far so good, the stuff really stays on after you get some dust build up.

it’s messy to work on it after it’s been applied, but it’s a good trade off.

one thing I did notice was some breakdown on my CV axle boots, right at the end by the shaft, I tried to cover them a little but some might have gotten on them by the axle shaft.

they do warn you not to get it on rubber components.

the boots are starting to breakdown and are only 2 years old. They haven’t failed yet but it was weird that they are cracking and weather checked.

I’m not 100 percent sure that’s the reason, or it’s inferior NAPA boots.
We’ll see how they hold up moving forward.

I don’t think they have a place in Jersey.

POR-15 work well. I’ve been using it for 10+ years now and it’s done a great job externally. It does require periodic touch up every few years.

Only downside is my truck is rusting from the inside out. :(
