Just received an update from Dongar that they released the dash cam adapter for our mirror . They are saying it will plug in to the auto dimming mirror and provide power for a dash cam without running those long power cords.

Did they mention anything regarding fused power? I see the usb port in the heat shrink but not sure if they added an inline fuse to protect the mirror or oem wiring.

This is what the back of my mirror looks like, where would this plugin? Not the greatest picture, but doesn't look like that cable can be unplugged from the back.

The plug you linked to does look like it would work for the OEM cam wiring above the headliner. Maybe it can be used there.

I'm working on a connector and convertor, but leaving town early tomorrow morning for a week and won't get back at it.
There are 3 wires in the connector above headliner and I have collected the following parts:
female connector, repair terminal (3), and 12vdc to 5vdc power supply off Amazon.
No fuse yet, but guessing it will need to be around 3a or less. Heat shrink or plastic box for power supply.
    First Image, connector in headliner.
Second image is for part numbers, if someone else wants to work on this project during the next week while I am out, go for it.

I'm not knowledgeable in this field, why is all this necessary vs the plug the OP posted a link to that is made for a camera?

This would be a cleaner setup to connect a Dashcam to the connector in the headliner which is used for the Toyota Integrated Camera PN# PT94934220, instead of a glob of connectors on the back of the rear view mirror. There are 3 different rear view mirror configurations for the 22 Tundra (regular, auto dim/home link, & digital) which would take 3 different connectors as well.

Glad you found these part numbers, Ive been searching for a solution to connect my dash cam to that plug! Please keep us up on the progress when you get back, I wish I had the knowledge to get it connected! I saw a video of Cambos Cooking Channel about the OEM Toyota Dash Cam and its not that great, SO I did purchase a Venture Dash cam and was going to run the wires down to the fuse box then run them towards the rear for the back camera, but I am hesitate because of all the Air Bags! So this would be a great option for the front camera to get power, then Id have to figure a way to run the rear wires without interfering with all of those bags that are all over that truck.

Quick question? Does the donglar 5-pin adapter fit into the dashcam unused wiring pictured above? Also is the dashcam wire 12v or 5v? Do we know?

Yes, I am back, and tonight i finished my little project. I place the 3 wires in the connector as shown below. Since they are of the same color and stripe, I added some heat shrink tubing in different colors to indicate their function. Wire with black = ground, red = 12v hot, white = 12v switched.

Next I added the little 12v to USB-A 5v power supply and put a big heat shrink tube around it, while also capping off the 12v switch. Why? Going with the constant 12v as my Dashcam has Parking Monitoring capabilities. If you would like to have you Dashcam on only when the truck is on, you would use the white in place of the red.

Next, I tucked it up above the headliner and ran and USB cable to my Vantrue N4 as you can see below the mirror, dash cam is on. Initial install complete. Next, try to run USB from front dashcam to rear window dashcam.

i was looking at getting that same exact dashcam, it seems to be quality, have you used it at all before? if so how's the video quality?

on another note, perusing the parts.toyota website, appears that some wiring is running along the drivers side of the headliner, that camera says that it comes with a 20ft usb extension, should be plenty long enough if you are feeling adventurous enough to take the side of the headliner down, alternatively if you don't have a sunroof, thinking an electrical fish tape from front to back through the middle might work?

Please make a few more for us mortals... I'd pay for a harness for my Vantrue cam.

I like how you used a usb 12V to 5V. I was planning on getting the vantrue hardwire kit and hardwiring it to that connector. Basically same idea without the usb 12v to 5v since the hardware kit comes with a converter. Just create a little pig tail harness with red and black wire for plug and play. But not sure how much room is up there for the hard wire kit converter box. With your usb method. There’s tons of room.

I ordered necessary parts to make 9 more. Parts per unit is $15.73 + bubble mailer + postage = $25 best guess for cost. PM me if you want one and mention your desire for power to be switched or always on. Parts arrive next week, assemble, and mail shortly there after.

As I await my harness to arrive. Will the always-on setup drain the battery? I think the Vantrue hard wire adaptor has circuitry to prevent battery drain.

There's a number of factors that play in to whether or not it will drain you battery. Short answer is yes, there will be a constant draw on you battery with this adapter, but it is very minimal. There will be even more draw with a device attached and turned on, then it depends if the screen is on or off, also depends if your cam uses IR lighting for night vision. Before totally configuring my dashcam (Vantrue N4), it was powered up over night and most of the day with the screen on. Truck started right up. The circuits used in this assembly will operate down to around 6v, at which point, you truck battery is reservedly drained/damaged.

    Maharisc,

I bought the wires off of eBay. Do these look correct? Also, do I have to open the retaining clip to insert them?

    Thanks,

They look correct, they just plug in to the connector, you'll hear a click that locks them in place.

Thank you. I learned I had to take the white retaining clip off to insert them in. That was my problem.
