I'm sure you don't want a long diatribe, so, tough:

As per the username, I'm a Brit but been here long enough to want to get naturalized and call myself an American, which I did a couple of years ago. :oldglory:

Been known to have some fun hobbies, prior to moving to the US a few of those would be biking, rock climbing, caving, rafting, whitewater kayaking, marathon kayaking, drinking, etc. Nowadays, I seem to limit myself to working and brewing beer.

Married to a native Floridian, who I recently managed to extricate from her state and resettle her in SC.

Not too keen on FL, sorry Floridians, FL incomers, snowbirds, Disneyphiles, tourists, et al. It's too humid for working and playing outside, it's too flat, it's too swampy and it's too damn full of people, especially grumpy, ignorant, coffin dodgers, interesting wildlife though...

Didn't own a truck until I moved to the States, UK road network and rubbish weather isn't really suited to large pickups, but I do have history of 4x4's, learnt to drive in an old 70's Landrover and for those who want to scoff I'd like to see them drive a four speed stick shift with an overdrive stick, a hi/lo box stick, a 2wd/4wd stick and then break their dainty fingernails on the hub locks... :boink: ;)

Since moving here I've progressed from a heap of poo, commonly called a Ford Explorer Sport Trac, a chipped 2010 F150, which was comfortable but written off by a drunk running a red light to my current ride, a 2013, double cab, 4.6L, no frills, Tundra. She's what I'd call 'agricultural' in her fittings, plastic throughout, entertainment consists of an FM/AM radio and a CD player, no bluetooth :(.
Being the 2WD version means that I've managed to get her stuck in my old yard in FL, in my new yard in SC, down on my brother in law's farm, SC, on various building sites both in FL and SC, in fact the only place I haven't yet gotten her stuck would be in water... Long story short, she doesn't like leaving the pavement (Come to think of it, the same applies to my old, lazy, Black Labrador..). :pout:
She's my everyday ride, my workhorse, my brother in law's surrogate workhorse when his old 90's F250 is having a rough day, she's usually packed with construction tools, has a goober rack for those days when I need to shift 24' lengths of Aluminum or lumber, the Truxedo cover (re-jigged so that I could fit the rack) keeps my saws dry, the tailgate is regularly used as a sawbench and the bed has carried everything imaginable in it. She struggles to stop with a 2000lb tote of beer grain (cattle feed) in the bed, doesn't bat an eyelid at carrying a roll of hay and has on occasions been spotted on the highway towing an agricultural trailer laden with rolls of hay, again, she's not too keen on stopping when laden like that.
I bought her four years ago with 80k on the clock and she's just about to roll through 210k...

Welcome from GA! I spent some time in the Charleston area in the late 80’s. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. Great people who know a thing or three about drinking.

Nice ramble. You should have sent it a couple of years ago to the acid-dropping idiots who designed the 2022. It seems they forgot everything our truck was famous for.

Charleston is ok but not really my cup of tea. I wanted to end up in the 'dark corner' of upstate SC but didn't quite make it. Laurens Co. will have to do, for now..

Yup, quite a bugbear of mine, too.
I drive a pickup because I want to fill it with crap, I couldn't give two hoots if it doesn't fit in a Corporate parking lot space but why the heck do I need a step ladder to get into it nowadays and just how the heck are we manual workmen supposed to afford the corporate bling that passes for a truck these days?

^^^That reminds me, I did omit to say that I have been a Clemson fan for some nine years now, and coming from the Tampa area means that you are stuck with a Bucs fan, a Rays fan and a Lightning fan... Let the sports wars commence. :p

Oh I've seen plenty of people using a truck for it's intended purpose but most of them are beat up ancient wrecks that have somehow managed to be kept running. I would prefer something along the lines of a beat up T100 or S10, rather than work-trashing $25k of truck, but I've got better things to do than spend all my free time under the hood with a wrench coaxing another week's mileage out of it. I'm often doing a daily 200 mile round trip to jobsites in the mountains so I can't afford to break down every five minutes.
I'm not going to knock those who can afford something big and shiny to show off in a corporate parking lot and use it for nothing more strenuous than taking the kids to the local park with their bicycles all snugged up on proper racks, blah, blah, blah but I do wonder what I'm going to end up with next time when this one eventually dies, I'm not overly keen to spunk my hard earned dosh on an everlasting, extortionate, vehicle loan payment.

Keep the shiny side up and with regular maintenance I’d be surprised if you don’t hit the 500,000 mile mark. These things are ultra reliable.... even as a regular work truck. Enjoy the ride.
