Recommendations/Help Needed

Hello all,

I recently joined and posted in the new member introductions but thought I would also post here now. Sorry in advance for how long this post will be, but need help and guidance. Forgive me lol

I’m currently undecided on which direction I should go and hoping all yall with previous and more knowledge than myself could help guide and make a few recommendations for me.

I recently bought at the end of Jan this year a 2018 SR5 Tundra TRD Off-road CM with only 8,500 miles on it. It had everything on it as far as lift (from what I can tell and reading on here is a 7”Procomp Stage 1 with the spacer, 20” Procomp rims and 37” Xtreme MT2 Procomp tires.

After reading since the end of Jan about everything available and different builds ppl have done I’ve started to get the itch to swap a few thing and make this truck mine and build it how I’d like.

So before I jump off into the deep end and possibly spend more money than I need to or waste I thought I would ask on here for some guidance first.

My plans (after reading everything on here for about 3 months now) was to completely swap the lift out and get rid of the spacer lift. I’ve looked at going with the BDS 4.5 with the Fox CO. Also with dropping in lift size I was going to drop down to a 35” AT tire (thinking about the Nitto Ridge Grappler cause of how quiet they are on my GF’s 4Runner we just got her new). I was also leaning towards dropping in both lift and tire size to fit in my garage and keep my basically brand new and new to me truck out of the elements.

With that being said…the more I have driven it since purchase, I have come to really like the height I’m currently at and like the stance as it sits now. So with that being said and I know I would have to do a few other things to keep this setup such as UCA (possibly? Need advice on this) and Regear pretty soon (looking at the 5.29s).

With all that being said, I already got a quote for the BDS lift from a custom truck shop here local that’s looking at $5-6k for lift plus the install with alignment. With the money to just switch lifts completely I could instead swap out the spacers for full coil overs with my current set up on the Procomp lift I have (I believe I seen Icon had a CO replacement for my lift) and also do the Regear for around the same price and keep my current height.

With all the being said, what would some of you guys with more experience recommend?? Sorry again for the long post.

Seems like an awful lot to un-do. Especially considering that you like the way it looks, rides, height. If the only "downside" is that it can't stay garage kept, like some sissy Porsche, then I say leave it and enjoy the time you spend to yourself keeping it clean. I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." My big fear would be that it just isn't right after the changes. I don't mean the shop won't do the job right, I mean you don't like the stance as much, the height "was better before," or it fits in the garage and that's where, instead of getting rained on now and then, it gets scratched or dented trying to get around it to do whatever else you do in your garage. Big bonus is you "save" five grand to do other things with, like a supercharger!

My completely un-science based two cents.

 

@rocsteady yes, the more I keep thinking about it the more I want to keep it how it is. Just get rid of the spacers for a good set of coil overs and Regear. I have also read a lot on here about the supercharger as well and that is definitely on the list. Just maybe a lil further down the road. Thanks for the reply

@batman900 yes for sure I’m looking for a good set of coilovers. Any suggestions? If I was to keep my current setup with the 7in would I not have to get some custom length ones? Also I’ve seen some say 6in coilover but idk if that would work with mine? Or would I just lose and inch in height (which I would be fine with if it works) There’s just so many options and different setups after reading on here so it’s all a little overwhelming. Just want to do it right the first time and not spend more later down the road.

Looking for opinions. I am going with the Bilstein 6112/5160 setup on my crewmax. The part I'm having the issue with it choosing what brand for UCA's. I have narrowed it down to the Bilstein B8 UCA's or the JBA UCA's. Which would be the best option? I'm going with the 1.9" setting in the front with a Toytec Progressive add a leaf in the back so not super high. Trunk will see a little offroad, but mostly towing. I just want to make sure the alignment is going to come out nice the first time.

I see a ton of reviews on the JBA's but not much on the Bilstein B8's..... thoughts?

 

I'd ditch blocks and go coilovers with new UCA's and shackles in back. I'm not sure you can get to your height...the best guy to call for all things tundra suspensions that I rely on for the absolute best advice is Dave @Coachbuilder1 Eckstrom design. I'm on my 3rd suspension but I'm only at 3 inches. I have toytec coilovers in front with a Dave's shackles in back. Added a leaf in back to level out the stance.....I got SPC UCA's that he recommended and had them powder coated red. Dave walked me thru various one's....depends a lot on how much off roading you do etc. They are not all created equal...with your height the options might be limited but he will know best. @dkrou thanks so much for the reply, Good looking truck. But yes I have reached out to him about the steering kit already but will definitely be asking about suspension help now.
